Probably better than Righteous Kill though. Gotta be, that movie was HORRIBLE.

If it fails to surpass Righteous Kill, then the Netflix curse is real.

I'll bet a year's salary it wont be as good as Heat though.

Scorcese hasn't made a movie post-Goodfellas that's as good as Heat.

 

This is a cool story and all, but it should be taken as fiction. Virtually nobody believes that Frank Sheeran is the one who killed Hoffa. The dude was full of shit.

Whatever wise guys killed Hoffa, they went to their graves with the truth. Sheeran was a blowhard.

 

I agree with every point that X made so I think it’s going to be mediocre to terrible. I also can’t get much of a feel for the movie by the trailer. My biggest indictments are it’s not a theater movie per say, I don’t trust Netflix and I think Scorsese is washed.

By the way, Righteous Kill . I actually had to look that up on IMDB because I’d forgotten what movie it was. I only saw it once and it wasn’t that bad.

 

I dunno if it's fair to say Scorsese is washed. Wolf of Wall Street was good (not great though), but that was 6 years ago now.

 

That’s a fair point. I do think I may have overstated my opinion as I was comparing him against his past greatness. I think a more accurate opinion of Scorsese is he’s now a slightly above average story teller compared to the great one he used to be.

 

"Silence" was supposed to be pretty good, though I haven't seen it, and it seems like it might be like watching a homework project.

Don't think Scorsese is shot though. "Goodfella's" and "Heat" are high bars to aspire to, no matter who the director.

Michael Mann might be shot, but Scorsese, hasn't really made a bad film recently, even if they're not quite up to his previous standards.

 

Michael Mann is shot to Hell. Hasn't made a quality movie since Collateral, and Collateral is over 15 years old now.

 

I was shocked when I looked up and saw that "The Departed" was 13 years ago, and "Shutter Island" was almost 10 years ago. I feel as old as Panchy sometimes. Haven't reached angry old man levels yet............but I might be getting there soon.

 

Netflix gave Scorcese $175 million budget for this film. I wonder if Thanos shows by mid-film and starts snapping to dust union leaders in a glorious CGI spectacle!

 

I don’t use movie awards/nominations as the basis for a film company’s ability to make good movies. At the same time I’ll admit I haven’t watched any of Netflix’s movies and have just trusted most of the negative reviews from this site. The real reason I lack trust is because nobody seems to know how to make a really good movie anymore. They drop every blue moon now.

The movie Antony talked about, the black & white Mexican drama 'Roma' was an insomnia killer; boring as hell and overrated beyond belief.

Vampirella would be 100x better than that 'let's-be-so-boring-that-pretend-arty-movie-arseholes-fake-it-as-some-genius-piece-of-movie-making".

Would it though? Because I thought you didn’t even watch comic book movies. I actually would have thought the artsy Roma BS would be more up your alley.

 

It is bone-crushingly slow...even for 60s/70s slow-burn movie standards.

I found myself FF through a bit of it, and watched John Wick: Chapter II, instead.

 

White Boy Rick was underwhelming.

 

So is Spielberg.

 

Netflix should do Vampirella and it would be more watchable than 'Roma'. At least it will have plenty of T&A plus blood to keep me awake watching.

 

Well looks like the Irishman will be available on Netflix only and will not be shown in select theaters (unless Netflix rents some out).

Apparently Netflix offered 30 days to the theaters before the film gets released on Netflix instead of the standard 90 days and the theaters balked. Me thinks Netflix planned and anticipated this outcome.
