I dunno what the studio is trying to accomplish with the two somber 'Gladiator'-like teaser trailers, but while I will most likely watch the film (is Superman, you know), I am not a bit enthusiastic or pump up like I have been for the Marvel films.
It might be good...for a 2nd remake...but I think 'Justice League Of America' will be the only thing DC can put up to compete with 'The Avengers' phenomenon... For me, the last Superman movie was as disappointing as The Fantastic Four (also scheduled for a re-make in 2015)
I think that DC lost the boat on this one. Marvel had a brilliant strategy of building the anticipation for Avengers films by introducing each character with their own films and putting thiose after credits teasers. It paid off big time. But DC wants to start with a "Justice League" movie first and then give each character a film. It will not work. Will they be able to persuade Christian Bale to portray Batman in an esemble casting? No way! It will be someone else dressed as Batman. Will the new Superman, Henry Cavill, be in it? that depends on many factors so is very iffy. If the movie bombs most likely not. If it becomes a huge hit he might become greedy and ask for a bigger salary which will keep him out. And will Ryan Reynolds be back as The Green Lantern after that movie bombed and was despised by fans? I doubt it. So the future looks grim for this project unless the studio is willing to shed lots of money to come up with something truly great. But I personally doubt it.
It certainly looks better then the last "Superman" by Singer. I like Snyder's stuff and this looks a little more cerebral then any of the past "Superman" movies. Not saying it will be a box office hit, but I'll wager it's a better film. I like the part in the trailer where Crash Davis advises little Clark Kent he should have let the children on the school bus die. Looks like "The Sweet Hereafter" crossed with "Unbreakable". :: I liked the Hans Zimmer/Lisa Gerrard soundtrack myself.
And unbreakble is always where i wanted superman to go. I wanted him to be haunted and traumatized by his abilities. Not just initially because of misunderstanding, but also, later on when he is established and having to deal with the burden of trying to save everyone. I want it to trully cause a depression like impact on his life.
Hmmmm..wonder where we've heard this before... :boring: Fuck this serious new-age-comic shit!!! It's only ever gonna work of they have Brainiac in it....or Mr MXZPTLK...or Jax-Ur!! ::
LOL at the Crash Davis reference. From now on we should call Elliot Ness by the name of our favorite characters of his films.:rock1:
Not only that but they also have to try to make real movies off of laughably lame characters like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Robin. Maybe the reason they want to do the JL film first is so they can get a feel for if it's even feasible to do films on those characters or if they'll even work out.
Is sad, but the only bankable characters DC has is Batman & Superman. Maybe to a lesser degree Wonder Woman since her tv show lasted three seasons even as awful as it was. The Flash tv series lasted only one season and The Green Lantern movie pretty much bombed. So a Justice League movie is a big gamble for the studio.
How many DC Comics did you used to own or even read as a kid, Panchy? I can remember mine: I owned maybe 10 Superman and Detective Comics...maybe a couple of JLAs when there was nothibng else in the shop...says it all.
I had two suitcases filled with comicbooks. I don't know how many were DC since I used to buy like 3 or 4 comics per week and sometime my mom will buy them for me. I had practically everything: from Disney cartoons, Hanna-Barbera cartoons, Archie (which back then wasn't a girlie comicbook), Marvel, DC, tv series comicbooks like The Green Hornet, Voyage to the bottomof the Sea, Mission: Impossible, Boris Karloff Presents, Dark Shadows, Classics Illustrated (awesome comics of classic books!), Red Ryder, the Lone Ranger, Hopealong Cassidy, spanish originals like Tawa, El Latigo Negro, la Tigresa, Juan Sin Miedo, El Monje Loco, Tradiciones y Leyendas de la Colonia, Blue Demon, El Santo, etc. Of course my favorites were Marvel & DC. More Marvel than DC though. But from DC I had a huge Batman & Superman collection. Some Flash comicbooks, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Martian Detective and Justice League only two or three. To me Justice League always felt like a forced concept to compete with The Avengers.
As a kid I started out reading DC comics (mostly Superman and Hawkman) but I was young and dumb and actually would throw them away after reading. Maybe a couple years later as I got more mature minded I moved over to Marvel comics which I found much better and I started collecting the comics I read. I started out as a big Hulk fan in my younger years but grew out of it and got more into a lot of other stuff with Spiderman eventually becoming my favorite.
