My only gripe is that Gooding doesn't really look or sound like OJ, he's still good though and I don't know who else they could have cast.
I think they did well to not even try and just go with Gooding. OJ doesn't really look or sound like anybody else. Better off avoiding the uncanny valley effect and staying away from an impersonation type performance. I think Gooding hit the right beats regarding OJ's mental state, and that's all that was really important to me. I would be curious to know who else might have been up for, or auditioned for the role. Maybe a bigger, brawnier guy like Michael Jai White would have been good, but I'm not sure hes got the acting chops to pull off the emotional stuff.
They should have cast Eddie Redmayne. He doesn't look like OJ nor is black, but would have delivered a convincing performance!
Gooding Jnr is the only reason why I haven't watched it yet: I can't stand the cunt. Everyone else though seems perfectly cast (not sold on Travolta though).
Awesome show. Couldn't believe it turned out as good as it did. I think it's right up there with Thrones and The Wire.
You're not the first person I've heard say that about Gooding, I heard it from a few people this week actually when I asked them if they've seen the show. Why do people hate him so much? I'm not a fan or anything, I'm pretty indifferent about him, but I'm curious as to why he generates so much vitriol.
I think a lot of people think he wasted his career doing shitty movies and mugging for the camera. Truth is, even though he's got an Academy Award, he's never been a A-List actor and he's never really gotten to really cherry pick his roles...........or if he has, he's mostly chosen poorly. Even if you hate Cuba, his role as OJ in this series is not really a huge part of the show. It's pretty evenly spread out among a big cast. The biggest parts are really the Marcia Clark and Johnny Cochran roles.
Watch the real thing, not Gayvolta and Gayschwimmer pontificating over Cuba ´Where Are They Now?´ Gooding, Snr. Tha fuck? :dunno:
I did see it fucker. I started a motherfucking thread on it. I liked them both. They make good companion pieces. Doesn't have to be an either/or.
THIS! OJ: Made In America was arguably the best documentary series ever made. It was soooooooooo damn excellent! Even though the case has been discussed to death, it's STILL must see. OJ Made in America was easily better than the People V OJ.
is it? they don't seem comparable at all...one is a reenactment and one is a documentary that includes a bunch of shit no one cares about: part 1 - his football career (who gives a fuck) part 2 - tensions between black community and police (who gives a fuck) part 3 - the murders and arrest part 4 - the trial part 5 - post-trial (who gives a fuck) maybe i'll just watch the 3rd and 4th parts and skip the other fluff
It depends if you´re into history or not. Personally, I found the first two episodes fascinating because Id not delved in detail into that era of US history, that is, the racial tension in 1960s America and also, how massive a star OJ was in the 1970s. Even if youre a casual or non-interested party, those first two episodes are really good. The least interesting episode is the post-trial...
The problem with Cuba is many people in the black community look at him as a Hollywood Coon who always playing the clown role. I think he has had some solid performances. My personal favorite of his was Instinct.
