His PROBLEM is that he's too small to have any significant success above 135lbs. Mayweather was a small Welterweight and Broner is significantly smaller than him. Broner is actually a very good fighter but he's fighting out of his natural weigh class and the PROBLEM now is that once you've bulked up its hard to go back. Even 140lbs is too big for Broner.
At 135lbs he was potentially a great fighter, IMO, now he'll never realize that promise.

Or said another way, without a size advantage, like the one he enjoyed at 130, he is no damn good

Broner is 5'6"......Cotto is 5'7"...some people have IT...some don't....Broner doesnt' have it.

If Broner kept his weight in check....145-155 in between fights...he could still make 135...but he wants to live it up and party...because he knows eventually he will run into another Maidana...or a bum like Shawn Porter who will run him off the tracks.

    Fair point.

Pacquiao is a small guy too, so you have a point.

Broner's problem is he's just not a fraction as good as HE thinks he is. And I disagree about him staying at 135. I think he was just naturally too big for 130 and 135. His natural division is junior welter.

Even if he stayed at 135, Verdejo could beat him RIGHT NOW.

Broner is simply not as good as they hype was suggesting. He's decent. Nothing more. Any of the top 140-147 pounders absolutely MOP the floor with him.

    Nah, bro.

He's just a classless, uneducated prick who thinks the boxing world revolves around him, and that he's the new "superstar" in boxing.

Fuck Broner. He needs another beating as far as I'm concerned.

That's a stretch. I don't think Verdejo could beat Broner yet. I do think Verdejo will be a much better fighter than Broner, but as of now he's fought NO ONE. Broner isn't Ray Leonard, but he'd be the best opponent Verdejo has faced at 135 by leaps and bounds and I don't think he has the experience to beat Broner yet. In about another year or so, probably, assuming he continues to progress. But the Verdejo of right now vs the lightweight Broner, I'd pick AB.

BESIDES, Verdejo won't be a career lightweight. He's a big lightweight already, and he's only 21. He'll be more comfortable at 140, which is where I suspect he'll have his prime at.

    Hmmmmmm... :scratcher:

I see where you get that for sure. The strange infatuation with Floyd will raise some eyebrows. Never before have I see one man try SO HARD to be like another man.

But look at Broner's dad and see the way he himself acts. That's a good place to start to see where he gets some of his antics from.

If Haymon wants to continue to make Broner look good, he should match him with Omar Figueroa next. Broner would beat the brakes off of Figueroa.

I can agree with that. That's more a reflection of just how LOW I think of Broner, talent wise as a fighter.

He seems to have decent pop in his punches, but little else. No defense despite trying to fight like Floyd. Hand speed is average I'd say. Bad timing and accuracy (Misses a lot of punches), and doesn't show much ring IQ or variety in his punch selection.

He does have a decent chin it appears, though. Took some shots from Maidana and didn't fall.

I too suspect Verdejo will have his prime years at 140 as well, and may enjoy a few good years at 147.

Broner's handspeed is above average. It's in the good category. He sure as Hell doesn't have Mosley-like blazing handspeed, but his hands aren't slow. His reflexes and brain are slow, however.

Broner's footwork also isn't all that. Nowhere close to his idol Floyd.
