This morning, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. refused to appear for a court-ordered deposition in the defamation lawsuit filed by Manny Pacquiao in a Las Vegas federal court. Mayweather tried to postpone the deposition last minute, but Federal Magistrate Judge Robert Johnston denied his request and ordered Mayweather to appear for deposition today. Mayweather did not appear. Pacquiao’s attorney, Daniel Petrocelli of O’Melveny & Myers, said, “Mr. Mayweather maliciously leveled false accusations about Mr. Pacquiao. We are anxious to examine him under oath about those statements. He is just dodging his deposition because he is afraid to testify, but he has no right to defy a Court Order.”

 

When did Floyd say Manny's a juicer anyway? I thought it was Roger.

I'm no big Mayweather fan right now, but how do you "prove" somebody is a juicer when they refuse to take the applicable tests?

Another good question. I'll defer to Irish... but I imagine, in a case where the athlete has passed tests in the past, you would need actual evidence of a purchase/injection etc...

 

The onus is on Floyd to back up what he says. Manny, even if he was juicing, is entitled to not self-incriminate.

For instance, if there were photos of Manny juicing, Floyd could say what he wants, so long as he can produce acceptable evidence in Court.

Here, he has none.

Manny's people may have fucked up by actually calling the wrong guy to Court, unless what Leonard said can be vicariously imputed unto Floyd , by way of Leonard being an agent of Floyd etc.

Basically, in instances of defamation, nothing you say is defamatory, if you can show it is true.

How does Floyd show what "he" says is true???

He can't make Manny take the tests. Thats not how the law works. You get the proof first, then you proceed with a charge, with a publication, with a statement, etc.

Now Floyd is given the LEGAL opportunity to appear in a court of LAW to be questioned under OATH and he is AWOL.
