garcia says 154lbs is too much because of the size of harrison among others? i dont get that logic. and it makes it seem like he really is underestimating spence's ability. spence isnt as tall are harrison, but he's a lot better fighter and physically stronger as well.
Normally when you have two P4P guys squaring off (especially when they're undefeated) it's one of the biggest events in the sport. I'm looking forward to it, but I think I'm like most people here in believing Mikey is biting off more than he can chew. Garcia is not feather-fisted, but never been a one punch KO artist and now at 147 his power will rendered even less effective. It would seem he'll have to fight a near perfect fight in order to stand a chance. Spence is just too relentless and too good to allow that to happen.
He’s Definitely Selling Spence’s SkillSet Short. You Can Still Be a Skillful “Boxer” Within the Confines of an Aggressive-Come Forward Fighting Style. REED
Agree with Whiskey, right now pretty much ANY halfway decent matchup seems like a superfight but I think Spence is too strong and powerful
Not only are Spence's skills being underrated, Mikey's skills are currently OVERRATED. Yes, I fucking said it! Mikey Garcia is not as much of a boxing savant as some pretend him to be. This guy just dropped 4 rounds to Sergey Limpnuts. He's not some virtuoso boxing genius.
I think Spence gets the job done in within 6 rounds. His size and yes SKILL SET (Which the Thurman and Crawford groupies tend to underrate) will be the too much for Mikey, whom will give a brave effort but in doing so will dig an even deeper grave for himself. I don’t even think Mikey could have beaten Brook at 147. And Brook was faster and more powerful than Garcia, and Spence took him apart. It’s good to see name fighters fighting each other but for me this outcome isn’t in doubt.
I thought whiskey meant that even though these guys are among the biggest stars of the sport, nobody still cares. I haven't seen this being billed as a superfight
Spence has good skills to go along with his strength but tbh the only reason people talk up his underrated, mysterious skills is because he’s black. If his name was Erlov Spenkovic he wouldn’t be romanticized in the same way. Garcia is clearly the more skilled fighter but I don’t think it will matter much. Garcia doesn’t seem rangy or quick enough on his feet to outbox Spence without using a lot of energy and I don’t think his punches will have enough effect control Spence and check his aggression.
This fight is about Garcia needing to make up for the fact he can't face any of the guys his fans actually want to see him face.
Neither do I. I think it will be a little bit more competitive than most assume, but Spence wins clearly and probably by ko too. If Mikey had stay in his weight class, we could have had much more interesting fights than this
By fighting a dangerous opponent. Plus, the number of opponents within his promotional outfit worthy of PPV is likely small.
agREED… This Could Be Another Sanchez-Gomez Type of P4P Fight, Honestly...Like Sanchez, Spence Isn't "Green", Untested or Undisciplined... Mikey's Shorter, Smaller, Slower, Older...And the Skill Difference is NEGLIBLE to These Eyes..."Anything Can Happen" in a Prizefight, But Sometimes You're Like "Anything AIN'T Happening Tonight"... It Ain't Happening March 16th Either... REED
Agree 100% with whiskey and Irish. Usually when two undefeated pound for pounders square off in their prime, it's compelling, exciting, and a boxing fan's dream. This fight? I couldn't care less. I mean, why? It seems so pointless. Even if their ability is close, P4P, Spence is so much bigger, stronger, more powerful, rangier, it's a completely pointless fight. He'll steamroll Mikey in 4 to 6 rounds, and it won't even be a fight. Mikey will look tiny and completely ineffective, his offense will look like nothing, Spence will walk him down and beat him up.
