Hearns by UD. Just a bad style matchup for Eubank. I cant for the life of me see him getting inside of Tommy's jab, and although Eubank had a tough chin, it was NOT Hagler good. Hearns could hurt him, and make him gun shy.

I'm SURE you'll pick Eubank by KO though.

Probably Hearns by decision but i think Eubank makes anybody rooting for Tommy grind their finger nails down in the late rounds.

I'm with Whiskey... Eubank was a solid hitter... And he was unorthodox and could get off a weird shot that may surprise a classic boxer, but in general the smart money is on Hearns to decision him, with his power (and as X astutely pointed out, its effect on Eubank) being critical in the equation

    word.

Eubank will be horribly outboxed, but Chris had so much heart and resolve that he'd get to Hearns with his underrated power before the end of the fight. 12 rounds is a long time with Hearns' chin and Eubanks determination and power.

It's an interesting match up for sure. I'd pick Hearns but if the odds were long of a Eubank KO i'd probably stick a 5er on

Actually...I'm on the fence in this one to be fair. Hearns was a better fighter than Eubank, in terms of skills. Eubank's chin and heart (and Hearns' chin and resolve) are all that could allow Eubank to win. Still for him to do so it would be by first going through hell.

Eubank didnt have the "balls to the wall" style of Barkley, nor did he have the chin, skill, and ferocity of Hagler.

Granted, due to styles, Eubank would have beaten the hell outta Barkley. But still, he loses to Hearns.

Not many boxer-punchers like Eubank could have beaten Hearns. Unless you're Ray Leonard. And it goes without saying that Eubank was NO Ray Leonard.

Hearns via UD. I think his power would indeed make Eubank leery about coming in.

But Ebank had the qualities tha tRay Leonard used to beat hearns: chin and BIG BRASS BALLS. Add to that that Eubank hit harder than Leonard and you can see what i mean.

Eubank hit harder than Leonard but didnt have NEAR Ray's speed, skills, and brain.

Agreed. But his determination and chin would cause him to get close to Hearns eventually and with that power of his...a KO/TKO is possible.

Having said all of this, smart money would be on Hearns by decision...I see the Eubank by late TKO as an alternative possibility more now that I think about it....but not the probability.

You know who Hearns would beat in one-sided fashion?

    Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Bad style matchup for Floyd...but it still wont be easy (suggesting Hearns wouldn't even struggle) for Hearns. No one could have beaten Floyd easily. He's too smart, too fast, too adaptable, too good to have been beaten easily even if he's on the wrong end of a styles matchup.

    Hearns 8-4 or 9-3.

Hearns wouldn't have much difficulty with the real Mayweather. The Super-Mayweather concocted by his groupies might be another story.

It'd be pretty hard for Floyd to win 4 rounds from Hearns considering he'd be sleeping within 5.

Floyd's less durable than benitez? Which KO loss of Floyd gave you that opinion?

Ok yes, that's right...Floyd is so easy to beat. many fighters have shown the blue print as to how to outbox or KO this guy.

The real Mayweather is very hard to beat...the weak, chinny, dancing fairy floyd concocted by his haters would most certainly be destroyed by Hearns.

Y'all are RIDICULOUS and don't know any fucking thing about boxing except its history. :atu:

Benitez honestly went into survival mode after awhile against Tommy.

If Floyd ran, and tried to survive all night, I suppose he lasts the distance. While winning no rounds in the process.

If he stands his ground, Tommy would lay him out.

Absolutely. Either Mayweather gets bombed out or he focuses more on going the distance than winning and MAYBE loses a lop-sided decision...but I think Hearns would get the job done before the final bell.

Sorry, Mayweather Fanboys...Super-Mayweather might be competitive, but the real one is doomed.

And let's not even get into how there's no way Mayweather even makes the jump to 147 if Leonard and Hearns are there.

Come on, I think Floyd deserves more credit than that.

He would still go to 147, he simply wouldn't fight them there

Unlikely...there were only two titles at the time (The IBF was still a few years away) so he couldn't avoid Leonard or Hearns and cherry-pick a title there.

Good point, I didn't think of that. In which case yes, he wouldn't even jump that far.

So Floyd makes the jumps from 130 to 154 with the sole intention of eventually fighting the superstar Oscar De La Hoya, who is naturally much bigger than himself....but he wouldn't have done the equivalent in the Ray Leonard days?

Be reasonable. He would have gone after Leonard for sure. Hearns, he may have avoided though....

Yes, by all means...let's spin taking on a near end-of-the-line & hadn't fought in a year 34 year old De LaHoya in the attempt to make it look the same as taking on a prime Ray Leonard.

    idiot.

I and many others felt that the De La Hoya fight was possibly biting off more than he could chew. He was the favourite sure...but that was because people recognized his ludicrous level of talent. Nevertheless even those who picked Floyd knew that Oscar had a more than live chance of winning. It took bravery to fight Oscar at that moment (coming off a shellacking of Majorga)..and it's revisionists like you that act as though this as an easy fight going in.

But that aside...Floyd had previously shown the tendency to take on the big challenges: Castillo in his first fight at lightweight, Corrales at 130lbs. He rematched Castillo though he didn't have to. He tried to get Tszyu, but the HBO/Showtime shit prevented that. He took on Gatti instead since Gatti had a title. He went after Hatton after the undefeated Brit was a top 5 P4Pder and had destroyed Castillo.

This is consistent with a fighter that would have gone after Ray Leonard, if Leonard was THE MAN and the CASH COW at the time.

I'm not saying that Leonard wouldn't have been more formidable than Oscar...but that isn't the point. There's nothing in Floyd's history that suggests that he wouldn't have attempted to beat him.

of course you'll respond by saying something like "Stafford..agenda, pumping your favourites" and then I'll respond in kind.

Nevertheless I'm still in between trying to attempt a logical discussion with a guy stuck in his ways.

    Cry-baby.

Bitch all you want...but trying to make Mayweather taking on DeLaHoya equivalent to Ray Leonard is just more of your self-serving "reasoning".

DeLaHoya hadn't fought in a year....and this was only his 4th fight in a 3 year period...so your "coming off" comment is the same kind of self-serving reasoning that made you say the same about Mosley vs Mayorga going into the Mayweather fight. This clearly wasn't the the same DeLaHoya who was taking on quality opposition on a regular basis.

AND going after a big pay day against a semi-active superstar who hadn't fought in a year isn't the same thing as going after one of the top fighters in the sport AT THE TIME the fight took place. It really isn't....and trying act if that is so is just more of your Fanboy mentality.

You would catch less shit from people if your posts didn't sound like ad copy.
