I like both. Both have pro styles and like to fight.

I don't know one from the other, but one is more aggressive and looks for the KO while the other takes his time and breaks you down.

Both could use fine tuning on the defensive end, but other than that, both are solid prospects. They're farther ahead than other hyped prospects like Berto and Khan.

Anthony's the Aggressive One...He has the More Eye Pleasing Style...

REED likes him,but Dude has an Amatuerish Habit of Making an Audible Sound EVERYfuckingTIME he Throws a Punch...Sounds like he's saying the Word "UP",or Something:lol: ...3 Punch Combo???..."UP,UP,UP"...

That could COST Anthony Against an EXPERIENCED Foe...U Can Almost TIME or COUNTER his Shots Based on his Verbal Outbursts...

I agree, they have kind of escaped allot of the hype, yet both have stayed very active. Assuming Lamont takes care of Brown this friday, he needs a step up. A good litmus test for him would be top 10 to 15 guy. Nothing crazy, but someone in that range would be great.

Now Anthony suprises the shit out of me. I saw the other day he is in the #1 spot for the WBO after he won the NABO title. I know the NABO title doesn't mean shit and rankings by the abc's are rigged 9 times out of 10. BUT, Anthony is smokin right now. I just wonder if he fights Katsidis soon, if it will be too much, too soon.

"pop" - that's what he says (or grunts) when he punches. I even discussed it in a post-fight article last year

I like both, have been high on them since they were amateurs. Lamont is the better pure boxer of the two, but at a time where there's a big push for brawls and less boxing, he won't get as much shine until he starts committing to his power. He did so in his last televised fight, but it remains to be seen if he brings it to every fight.

It sucks because muthafuckas are quick to offer "if it ain't broke don't fix it" on most occasions, but not when it comes to perfection in the ring. Now it's "if it ain't scoring knockouts or drawing blood, fix it."

So in that vain, Anthony will always get the more positive ink of the two. I like Anthony as well, but aside from the "pop" chants he also still has amateur habits that he can't seem to shake off. If he has a chin, he'll be alright, and fighting at lightweight suits his style so long as he's not killing himself to make weight, as his handlers can package him as a boxer-puncher. I worry once he moves up.

That said, tonight's fights will reveal very little.

agREED... though they could both stand an upgrade in competition. I started typing that in my last post to go along with "tonight's fights will reveal very little." That's my only criticism I have of them, and it has more to do with their handlers.

Katisidis would be way too much too soon for Anthony. Not that I even think that Katisidis is all that great, but Anthony's not ready for legit Top 5/10 contenders yet.

absolutely. a fight with a moderately ranked journeyman would be a good choice for Anthony.

I boxed as an ammy and now I box at the local gym just to keep fit. I still grunt when I throw my punches:lol: fucking amateur!

Jake is right on, tonights fights won't reveal anything, but impressive KO's could put a little more push behind them.

I really hope Anthony can stay at LW. He could eventually be a force, IMO, and have a great fight with Juan Diaz. That could have FOTY potential given Anthony keeps progressing.

absolutely, of course it all depends on Anthony's progress. Hopefully he stays busy(can't see him not) and gets a few more good fights in '07. But I agree, the styles match up to be a huge win win for the fans:cheer:

I'd like to see the same out of Lamont at 140. He has the potential and style to dominate their.

I like them both a lot. I hate to lean toward the less-accomplished amateur, but I like Anthony quite a bit more as a pro than lamont. I still can't move Andre Dirrell's brother ahead of him, but I consider them equals right now.

As far as making noise when you punch and speaking only as a fan, I don't think it makes any difference. Troy Dorsey did it. I've seen others, as well (Juan Diaz?). The noise happens simultaneously or right after you punch so I don't see how it can help the other guy with counters. And even if it does, then you just would have to throw in a few verbal feints to solve that problem.

I think making the noise helps keep the athlete breathing at the right time so they avoid getting side stitches. Luckily, it's much more common in tennis than boxing so I don't have to hear it that often.

This is only their DC debut in terms of headlining a card. They both fought in DC (if not the very same venue) early in their careers. Chop Chop was the main event, against Darryl Tyson. Shit fight. The thing I remember is that it was the first time Anthony went the distance (having knocked out his first three opponents).

I only say this because the card keeps getting sold as their homecoming and DC debut. Not sure why ESPN is doing that, but anyway...

It's not in Memphis for a few reasons. One, the fight last weekend took up everyone's money  ... not enough to go around like last year, at least going in. Little did everyone know they'd take a bath.

Last year's card w/ Peterson was held outdoors, for free in Handy Park. Prize Fight lost a lot of money on that show, believing they'd make up for it on revenue from wink/Taylor and whatever DiBella and Shaw were supposed to give them for using Prize Fight's license. Didn't happen; they instead got stuck footing the bill and lost their ass that weekend.

Long story short, they're not keen on promoting in TN much, these days. Tunica, yes. But a show like this is too big for the casinos, a lesson they learned the hard way when Zab's intended outdoor fight last month had to move inside after torrential downpours and lightning tore through the strip.

Hence, the DC Location - though I'm not sure how involved Prize Fight is with this show.

probably. that part isn't uncommon - very few regional promoters claim lead role on the road, unless it's their show from top to bottom.

I just didn't know if Prize Fight was tied in w/ the Peterson's fights, or if it was Shelly Finkel's doing to bring them to town.

    Prospects:
    - Peterson bros, who I believe represent the future of their respective divisions.
    - Mike Alvarado is a decent welterweight who's appeared on Telefutura a few times and is beginning to make his move.
    - Vanes Martirosyan, who may very well be THE best and most complete prospect in boxing, the Peterson bros included.

    Contenders/Gatekeepers:
    - Guerrero is a top featherweight, the Salido disaster aside, especially with fuck all else going on in the division.
    - Rocky Juarez is a 'tweener, will beat the rest but seemingly a steppingstone for the best at the moment.
    - Jeff Lacy's days as a major 168 lb. may be over, but figures to score at least one last big payday before the nail is officially in the coffin
    - Panchito Bojado is back, but who knows for how long

And then of course, there's Vargas, who is just about done, but should generate one last decent payday for everyone in his next (and supposedly last) fight, against Mayorga, rumored for September.

The thing about Shelly is that he always stays locked and loaded, and even when one group phases out, its around the time when he's ready to re-up. We're a year away from the 2008 Olympics, which means he's already looking to secure the top amateur talent. That's where dude lives and how he's always able to survive the game.

He is. They promote him. Shelly manages him.

the one that hurt Shelly the most is that he's no longer involved with Pacquiao. He'd be THE major player if he were still in the fold. But as I said earlier, he always finds a way to remain at or near the top.
