Hip-hop fans should like this one, a documentary about Nas and the recording of one of the best rap albums ever, in arguably the best rap year ever in 1994. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clGV9WfOFk8
I thought it was very good. Loved learning about all the little details and influences that went into making that album. I recommend it to any hip hop fan as well and of course every Nas fan.
REED has it Saved on DVR, Along w/Michael Rappaport's Tribe Called Quest Documentary... Nas Always Struck REED as a GOOD Dude, who Just Soooooo Happened to Grow Up in a SHITTY Environment...The Documentary REINFORCED That... Within the Queensbridge Projects, Nas' TALENT was Cultivated and Allowed to SHINE, Before he Could Get Deeeeeeply Caught Up in the TRAPPINGS of his Situation...A Couple Homey's Fell By the Wayside, and Sadly, Nas' Brother, Jungle, Seemed to Be FULLY Caught Up in those Same Pitfalls...Nonetheless, Nasir Jones was DESTINED to Make It... REED's Never Been a Big Fan of the Monotone, Queensbridge WAY of Rhyming, but Nas' Lyrics were Always RIDICULOUS...Motherfucker Could RHYME his Ass Off, Period... End of the Day, "Illmatic" is EASILY 1 of The Best Albums in Hip-Hop History AND on the Shortlist of Absolutely PERFECT Hip-Hop Albums...To THIS Day, Shit is Dope... REED:hammert:
Of All the MC's that Never "Made It", Per Se, REED was SHOCKED AZ Never Became a Certified Star...His Opening Verse on "Life's a Bitch" is 1 of THE Dopest Utterances REED's Ever Heard, from a Motherfucker on Somebody Else's Album... AZ Actually OUTRHYMED Nas on that Particular Joint, yet NEVER Reached the Level it Seemed he'd Achieve... Dude was NICE!!!.. REED:hammert:
Doe or Die was an excellent album. Underrated. But yeah AZ never blew up the way he maybe should have. In no particular order, Illmatic, Enter The Wu (36 Chambers), Long Live The Kane, Let The Rhythm Hit Em, Liquid Swords, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Supreme Clientele, Low End Theory, Aquemini, and Ready To Die round out my top 10 favorite hip hop albums.
1994 was the best year in rap IMO. Illmatic, RTD, Southernplaysticadillakmusik. Doggystyle had come out at the end of 93' and all his music videos were on MTV and BET throughout 1994. Illmatic is more critically acclaimed but I actually prefer Ready to Die I grew up on Bay Area rap and 1994 was the best year (1992-96 era was the best, pre-Hyphy)
