It's funny how these guys bash boxing but when it's time to talk money they suck boxings dick as to why they should make more money.
If Ortiz loses to Machida, he can consider his career in the UFC over and hopes of a giant payday. Not that he really deserves a big payday since he ain't fought or beaten anybody worth a damn since his lucky decision win over Griffin a couple years back. If he beats Machida though, he'll cash in well on his next fight if the UFC decides to keep him.
Nice way to spin the money issue. He does over a million buys with Chuck and has made $8,000,000 for 11 years. He should have made $8,000,000 for that fight alone.
He has no choice but to spin it around and change the subject because he can't sit there and say Tito is wrong, because he's clearly not.
It might be too late for Tito but its not too late for future talent. Its time for the fighters to take a stand against the bullshit ,like Ortiz has done for the past 11 years.UFC fans think fighters should fight for the love of the sport and not worry about the shit pay:laughing:,this is not backyard wrestling:nono:,they are professional athletes who should get paid like it.
Did Tito sign the contract? Yes Was a gun held to his head when he did? No Would he have made anywhere near the money he has over the last few years if he was fighting somewhere other then the UFC? No chance. TFK
Since every other mma org is dying off quickly, the UFC is comfortable knowing it's the only player in town. So its attitude is "Love it or Lump it!" There's no other place where the fighters can go and make the money the UFC is paying. MMA is still in its infancy. There will be no real competitors for a while. Even now, nobody really knows if MMA is a fad or not. If the sport was legitimate, interest would go beyond just the UFC. But it hasn't and nothing indicates that it will, especially with all these smaller orgs going down the sh*tter. If Elite XC doesn't garner respectable ratings on CBS in its premiere show, they're gonna pull the plug on it immediately. The owner of the network has already said he never wanted mma on his network in the first place. He's drooling to see Elite fail. Elite is on thin ice as it is. If the CBS show is a bust, Elite is done IMO. They're already $30 mill in the hole.
The reason Tito Ortiz doesn't get paid money like Oscar or Floyd is because he is nowhere near the athlete level of either guy. He's a fat bum who used his size advantage to gnp guys for years until everyone else figured out the advantages of cutting weight.
Tito, like Shamrock and some others, had the misfortune of being involved in an organization, and really in a sport, in it's infancy stages. The sad truth is now that MMA athletes have the potential to make some money if they are top tier, Tito is no longer top tier. Whether you think Tito is past his prime or you think the sport has just evolved beyond his game, there is no denying that Tito isn't a real player at 205 anymore. While he is still a bigger draw than any other Lightheavy not in the consensus Top 10, he is hardly main event material. He made some money. He probably didn't make what he thinks he deserved, but he made more than most and should be happy.
UFC had to lose money to make money. When Zuffa took over from SEG they were doing around 30,000 PPV buys an event. EXC has some stars AKA Kimbo and Frank Shamrock. Signing Tito would be a major signing. He is capable of doing big numbers on CBS.
i just really can't sympathize for a guy complaining about only making a "only" a million bucks for a fight.. or so:doh:
According to the UFC, Ortiz walked away with $3 million for his one fight at UFC 66 once all bonuses and everything were paid out.
There was a lot of luck involved in the UFC's sudden surge of popularity. It all came down to the TUF series. People got hooked on it and it took off from there, perhaps a lot of it owed to the Griffin/Bonnar war. I don't know if signing Tito would be all that 'major'. He's been irrelevant for more than a year. He's only had 1 fight since the big UFC 66 event and even then it was not a memorable fight and he received a lot of boos. His best wins are over Shamrock. And it looks like the UFC has passed him by. I don't think he's going to bring along that many UFC fans if he goes elsewhere, not as much as you'd think anyway. Kimbo's hardly a star in my view. One loss and he'll be outta there, mystique completely over. The UFC's brand sells itself, good card or poor card. Nobody knows what EliteXC is.
Great point. But hopefully, the exposure EliteXC gets because of Kimbo will help build their own stars by the time Kimbo gets beaten. TFK
The UFC is pulling a fast one. They're putting on 3 hours of Liddell's past fights on Spike to directly contend with Elite on CBS on May 30.:: Do they sense Elite as being a threat? They want to see it fail? Dana fears competition? Hmmm.....
I don't know but I'd take a piece of that big british lug James Thompson. He'd gas out just running at me.
I also heard Tito just bought a home worth 3million ,so it seems to me Tito is hiding something.:shit:
Tito has made money, no doubt. He is just saying that fighters in MMA are getting shortchanged. Bad move career wise for him, who has already made money......but he seems to be trying to help fighters AFTER him. I applaud that.
