Just a rumour right now. Ortiz was in the crowd at Affliction. He's looking for a job. And history told us he talked sh*t about Babalu and Babalu said he'll kill the motherf*cker if he ever has the balls to meet him in the ring or cage. Good match for another Affliction ppv. And another star name to help bring in the TUF/UFC fanatics since Ortiz was a big deal amongst them and still has a huge following.
They should bill the card "we couldn't make it in the UFC" If this is a headlining fight, it is garbage. It would be a nice undercard fight but these guys are both well past it.
It's certainly a fight tailored to the UFC audience. Since that's what Affliction is competing against, it makes sense in that regard. It's definitely not a main event, but Ortiz is a big enough name outside of just the MMA world that it would certainly help sell tickets/pay per views.
Ortiz is still a draw, but I don't think he's the draw he thinks he is. He hasn't had a meaningful win in years. And Babalu is garbage. I'm sure this fight will draw some interest, but I couldn't care less. That's assuming Affliction has a 2nd event, which may or may not happen. TFK
The UFC has the best overall roster of fighters. Personally, I'd like it if there was only one MMA organization. I wouldn't give a shit if it was UFC, Affliction or another org, as long as it's possible for the best fighters in the world to face the best fighters in the world. As of now, the UFC is the only one close.
Why would I hope it doesn't happen? The rumor is if a second Affliction show does happen, it might be in Atlantic City, and if that's the case, I'll probably be there live. But I'm just calling things as I see them. I think Affliction's business plan is doomed to fail. Especially if they can't get Couture. TFK
