Will the ruling be changed? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/j2QkF-weC8w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
No it wont be changed because people including the ref are sick of being conned by this piece of trash.
Hbo once again has it wrong, showing once again support of their bed-fellow is more important than e the facts. In fact a punch need not have landed for a tko to occur. Rather, its simply necessary for one fighter, by way of something other than a noted foul, to medically incapable of continuing.
It'll be overturned this isn't an organized sport with a central authority Hopkins is the name, Golden Boy is the name the name means money The referee will be scapegoated
not necessarily say fighter A twists his ankle and breaks it while taking a sidestep and falls to the canvas and can not continue... the other guy wins via TKO (see how a totally used-up John Mugabi managed to win the Junior MIddleweight title in 1989)
if a guy gets hit w/ a low blow and fails to continue, then it's ruled as a TKO. williams vs. cintron was a different case since cintron some how fell outta the ring, but hopkins fell from a responsive shove, WHICH happens quite often, but in most cases guys get up and hopkins didn't. maybe he probably felt that it was gonna be another tough 12 rounder and he saw the opportunity to just leave and get paid. if my shoulder was fucked up, i wouldnt be standing up and doing any interviews, that's for sure.
I always thought if there was an intentional or unintentional foul and a fighter couldn't continue, it's a no contest. this was clearly a foul
I don't think it was a foul, he pushed off Hopkins after Bernard tried to clinch him. What is he supposed to do ??? Hapilly accept the clinch. I don't know the technicallity of the rules in that case, but if I'd have my way, the TKO result would stay, and I like Hopkins far more than I do Chad. I just feel that if a fighter can't continue due to whatever reason, unless a clear foul occured, a tko should be called.
Yeah, that is why the ref is there. it's clearly a foul man. He grabbed the back of Hopkins' leg, which is below the waist.
not too long ago, in the topic about what you would changed about boxing, I said legalize throw from the clinch as in muay thai ( and old school boxing if I'm not mistaken ). This is a perfect example of why it would be better
I'm not sure, but to my knowledge, you can fight off a clinch ( this one is more of a grey zone thought ), and if you can't, it should be changed asap
Its likely to be overturned. But unfortunately it means a rematch. And I'm not interested in watching that.
I think a key piece many people are missing is Bernard didn't have to fall he fell on purpose it was fake from the beginning...If he had the upper hand he would have caught himself like the athlete he is a kept going. The little shoulder shove happens everyday in boxing and no one goes through the ropes when it occurs.
It is also illegal to purposely drape yourself over your opponents back in order to prevent any possible punching response Bernard has done this constantly over the last few years and continuously gotten away with it... he was attempting to do it again when Dawson did what a bunch of guys before him should have done, he pushed him off
at least you got one thing right tonight. Now watch the fight again, look for the shots I was talking about and get back to me.
He would have found some other way out if that didn't happen...the guys a bully who can't take it when he doesn't have the upper hand.
Probably. Although it would have been nice to see more intensity coming from Dawson's fists than anything else.
it was coming IMO...the table was being set and Bernard knew it that's why he bailed. I happen to think Chad landed some key shots in the first round that set the stage for Bernard bail out.
While it's possible Bernard bailed and faked i think it's more likely something else happening he didn't like than "key shots". I'll watch the fight again but i only saw one short left on the inside that tagged Hopkins in the first round that was effective.
I know you are, so am I the first round was a tepid, feeling out process in which neither man did much to distinguish himself Dawson cornered Hopkins here and there, touched him (at best) with a few cursory shots... Hopkins countered with some cursory shots of his own... there wasn't much to discern from that round, certainly there wasn't anything anywhere near conclusive enough to predict this incredible Dawson ass-kicking you are saying Hopkins faked his injury to avoid To me, it seemed more clear that Hopkins' faking (assuming he was faking) had to with seeing an easy opportunity to win via DQ rather than some genuine fear of Dawson, who really is nothing special Could Dawson have won the fight? sure, absolutely... if he was committed to just letting his hands go a bit, it would have been enough to probably earn him a typical "controversial" (because Hopkins makes the fights SO uneventful with his constant stalling tactics) victory over Bernard... but would he have handed out some world-class beating? I don't see how you get that from a guy who is pretty one-dimensional, relies (like so many today) on athletics instead of genuine skills, and has shown a marked lack of confidence in really getting after negative opponents...
We have two totally different takes...precedence counts so of course Bernard was faking...when does he fake? when he's faced with adversity. What adversity was he facing tonight? a younger, faster, man who showed he could land his jab and fight him off when he needs too. I saw in the first round the makings of a route and the possibility of Bernard getting stopped. Chad came to fight tonight and Bernard knew it so he pre-empted the beating and bailed hoping that fans would say..."oh Chad didn't do anything to make Bernard bail he didn't even land anything"...well the fact is he landed enough to show me and Bernard he was going to do what he wanted to do that night. yes Chad has not always been stellar but styles make fights and Bernard was not trying to take the beating he had coming.
