It is easy to take for granted that popular songs played incessantly on the radio are crap. But many years removed, and with an open mind, you can find a new appreciation for them. Examples - Staying Alive - Bee Gees Cheesy song but if you listen to the lyrics, it is pretty tragic and desperate. Little Pink Houses - John Mellencamp On surface, seemed to me like a mindless sing along. But a close listen and it is kind of chilling. Holdimg Back the Years - Simply Red Lame song but sad as hell
I liked all three of those the first time around. One song I didn't appreciate until about 20 years after it was released was the song "Synchronicity" by the Police. I used to always change the station when it came on and it couldn't get into it. Now I turn it up. Funny, it was seeing a Police cover band do that song that made me appreciate it.
You use "chilling" as an adjective often It's an unusual choice... you don't hear it very much ... anyone ever told you that?
No such song as ´Synchronicity´ by The Police. It´s either ´Synchronicity I´ or Synchronicity II´. (both are pretty sub-standard by The Police standards, btw)
It's the one where Sting sings about your gran faking suicide attempts and the factory belching filth into the sky. Synchronicity II . I didn't say it was a great song. I hated it for like 20 years then finally started appreciating it.

AgREED. It’s no used in that context often enough fer ma liking, most people’s ‘chilling’ nooawadays is relaxing/ enjoying themselves as opposed to the ‘Vincent Price’ terror way where your blood is chilled and a shiver runs doon yer spine... some music does have that effect. Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ couldae been called ‘Chiller’. Anyhoo, tae answer the original question, mine wid be ‘Get Lucky’ ba Daft Punk... everyone will hate me but Ah love that song noo whereas Ah thought it wiz repetitive crap at the time. Oddly enough, Ah didnae like ‘The Smiths’ when they were taegether (think it wiz 82’ til 87’) but really got intae them from 91’ onwards and have gone full circle tae not liking them again. Not that ma opinion counts - Ah love AC/DC, like.
Back in the day I just plain despised Billy Idol songs, except for 'Eyes without A Face' which I privately dig. Many years later I listened again to 'Rebel Yell', 'White Wedding', and many others and found they were much better than the crap 90s grunge playing on the radio. I ended buying Idol's greatest hits album. LOL
I noticed you left off the Billy Idol song that would be your obvious favorite (especially the video) "Cradle of Love."
