Top five pure out-boxers? For me, it's a hard list to make. The top four are obvious, IMO; Canto, Pep, Pernell and 'Money' Floyd. Picking the fifth is a very difficult task - probably just slightly harder than putting the top four in an order you're/I'm happy with. It's also difficult deciding who's falls under an out-boxer and who's more of a boxer-puncher. I wouldn't include guys like SR Leonard, or Hearns, or Burley.

Fighters like Benny Leonard, Gene Tunney, Tommy Loughran, etc; look good IMO - but not as good as those four. Is a fighter like Ali worthy? Despite being quiet a basic technician compared to lower weight fighters?

I'm gonna make a judgement call and say that the parameters here are that it's by their measure as an out-boxer, not a fighter on the whole. As in, how well they sum up that archetype, not who was the best fighter who you'd class an out-boxer. If that makes sense.

I know they don’t have the pedigree of the fighters you mentionned but Rigondeau and Lomachenko are pretty good outboxers although Rigondeau is pretty economical with his punches.

Rigo was one of the dark horses who I had in my mind. With Kalambay and Harold Johnson. They could all make it IMO.

Loma's more of an offensive fighter though, IMO. Those t-rex arms sort of force him into it.

Yeah. I don't see Loma as an out-boxer at all

How does being an offensive fighter make somebody not qualify particularly when they're not a puncher?

Ok so Loma is too offensive to qualify! I feel what he does to fighters is what I understand as « outboxing » but I guess there’s some nuance here I haven’t understood.

I don't seeLoma's game as trying to keep his opponent on the outside and pilling points. To me, he's a mid range fighter and more of a boxer/puncher

No I agree, but the way he uses his feet to move around his foe and avoid punches at close range while outlanding his opponent qualifies as outboxing in my book. But I understand what you’re looking for in an « out-boxer ».

To me I feel like guys like Luis Rodriguez, Lionel Rose, Ernesto Marcel, Ismael Laguna, Joe Brown, Gilberto Roman, Miguel Lora, Sumbu Kalambay, Ivan Calderon can be classified as out-boxers. Pick any of those guys as part of your Top 5.
