Gimme your lists. Names for consideration (in no particular order): Mosley Leonard Jones Robinson Hearns Camacho Taylor Patterson Tyson Judah
I'll give it a stab, in order... 1- Roy Jones 2- Hector Camacho 3- Mike Tyson 4- Muhammad Ali 5- Ray Robinson 6- Ray Leonard 7- Meldrick Taylor 8- Floyd Patterson 9- Shane Mosley 10- Thomas Hearns
I don't think Ray Robinson is top 10 in terms of handspeed. If he is, it's lower top 10. He had EXTREMELY fast hands, don't get me wrong, but he's definitely not top 5. Roy is the consensus #1. That's a given. So I won't even rank Roy anymore. After Jones, I'd say: 2. Camacho 3. Leonard 4. Tyson 5. Ali 6. Taylor 7. Mosley 8. Patterson 9. Hearns 10. Judah: By far the weakest fighter on this list, but he had incredible handspeed. I think Joe Louis gets slept on when discussing handspeed. Prime Louis had ridiculously fast hands. After the top 10, I'd say Robinson, Louis, Pac, Laguna, Howard Davis, and the 126 Gamboa.
I can't believe I left out Howard Davis. Yes, he was a definite. Pac too deserves a mention. Maybe I did put Robinson a bit high. But yeah he dodges deserve to be on the list. Fighters with deceptive hand speed 1- Joe Frazier- That left hook uncoiled out if nowhere. 2- Kostya Tszyu- Particularly with the straight right. 3- Tito Trinidad- His feet weren't that fast, but when he unleashed he was quick. 4- Sergey Kovalev- Classic example.
I Agree with having Jones at #1 That "four hooks in 1 second" business is enough to put him on the top without any question. From there is gets tough. 2. Leonard 3. Patterson 4. Camacho 5. Mosley 6. Taylor 7. Tyson 8. Pacquiao 9. Hearns 10.Ali
Ali is way too low. In absolute terms he might have been slower than these guys, but relative to his size it's absolutely remarkable for a man 6'3, 215 to be as fast as him.
Perhaps but I tend to think Ali's handspeed is a tad overrated. Very fast hands but Ali's notable speed was in upperbody movement, footspeed and reflexes. For example I thought Patterson had notably faster hands than Ali.
