I agree on this one. Besides Thiago, it's full of has-beens and flops. Joe Silva really dropped the ball on this one. This will be a free stream night for me.
I'm sure they will make good money from the gate since it's in a virgin territory but ppv numbers should be very weak. 116 is another story
I think it looks to be a card with a number of bouts ending early. I'll be having a few beers and watching it. artie:
It's amazing this card is PPV. I am usually a guy that can spin match ups into some storyline that interest me. On this card, I can't find anything that really works. I do like Liddell facing Franklin better than Ortiz, but Liddell has no business even co-headling a PPV at this point. Probably the bout I am most looking forward to is Tyson Griffin-Evan Dunham. Dunham is undefeated and looked great subbing Escudaro his last time out. And Griffin is NEVER in a boring fight. Unfortunately this fight isn't on the main card.
Lidell was retired because he was shot now he is back main eventiing. Obvioulsy there are no new stars.
There are plenty of new stars. This is just a bad job of building a card. The rationale was obviously that the TUF build up would generate interest in Liddell-Tito 3. They were wrong about that and Tito was replaced by Franklin anyway. They should have made this a Spike card or a $19 PPV in my opinion. Then again, it's being held in Canada, so fuck it.
Jon Jones???...Shane Carwin???... 2 Well Spoken Guys that ALWAYS Look fo FINISH Fights...BOTH of them Could B Fixtures on Lb for Lb Lists in the VERY NEAR Future... UFC is Milking what's Left of Liddell's Popularity...Reminds REED of how Mike Tyson had a String of UNNECESSARY PPV Fights, Well AFTER Exceeding his Shelf Life... REED:kidcool:
There are definitely using his name to try to sell an unworthy card, but remember that Chuck basically had to beg Dana to fight again. They aren't using him. Dana would have rather he never fought again.
Jon Jones hasn't been in a main event. Ill give you Carwin but it's the same recycled trash event after event.
True but Liddell and Dana are the best of friends. Besides, Who is Dana to disallow Liddell from making a living just as long as he's healthy enough to fight onward? Chuck basically carried the UFC on his back for a few years and was one of the top guys during the time of the UFC's boom. Unless somebody takes him out permanently, as long as he's cleared to fight he should be allowed to fight. It's up to the fans if they want to buy it or not. I personally am fine with seeing Liddell fight. He's not one of my favourites at all but I do respect what he brings to the game which is punching power and aggression. He doesn't do the lay and pray and hug and hump junk. He either knocks you out or gets knocked out. I say let Liddell do his thing.:kidcool:
If U CAN'T See & Acknowledge Jon Jones' Star QUALITY, U're Blind...He's Still Gotta PROVE it in the Cage, but this Cat Could B THE BIGGEST Thing in MMA, a Year from Now... REED:mj:
Most fighters fail when they're still in the "proving" stage. Or they'll fail after they've proved themselves and won a title only to lose it when trying to prove themselves as solid champions.:: Jon Jones has a long way to go yet I think but he's got the tools. I want to see if he's got the mental strength and I want to see his chin tested.
The fights on 115 aren't really signifigant, but this should be a fun card. The Liddell\Franklin, Cro-Cop\Barry and Yvel\Rothwell fights should all end in KO. In the grand scheme of things, the fights may not mean much, but it should be an entertaining card. TFK
I noticed the worst fights on paper are usually the best events. Remember Pride Homecoming II? That was amazing!
Crappy main event and not worthy of a 50 dollar price tag. Franklin lost to shot Wanderlei, that's how shitty he is. Liddell is obviously a shell of himself. This is the UFC's version of Roy/Hopkins 2. The undercard is barely decent too.
That's what I was thinking. These fights, from an entertainment standpoint, should be pretty good. TFK
I don't think I can handle seeing Crocop take another beating. I really feel bad for the guy now. He is grasping for something that is no longer in his reach. We've seen it so many times before.
Good point. Actually, there are a bunch of guys on this card that are fighting for their very existence as relevant fighters. That usually makes for good fights.
who's this pat barry cat? i know nothing about him. age? experience? style? can anyone chime in on this?
He is actually kinda like Crocop. Very good kickboxer with strong kicks. Although not the TD defense or sub defense that Crocop had. He is also a bit on the short side. But his youth And confidence should win him the fight IMO.
