This is going to be a bit of a chess match, but it'll be interesting to see if Jones tries leg kicks. He has to chincheck Machida at some point.

This is what interest me the most about this match-up. I can't wait to see the strategy that Jones decides to use.

The only guy to beat Machida is Rua who used forward pressure and great, mixed striking. Jones is certainly capable of that but probably without the pure power of Rua.

The other thing Rua did was cut off the cage as opposed to following Machida. That is a mistake most other opponents made with Machida. Jones has such range that I think he'll be able to 'corner' Machida. At that point I think Jones will look to clinch and employ his superior Muay Thai mixed in with occasional throws.

Jones superiority is clear but Machida is going to be a difficult nut to crack. And my guess is this will be the first time we see Jones hurt and/or in difficult situations.

    Interesting Fight for Sure...

There's Absolutely ZERO Pressure on Machida Here & if the Fans Get to BOO'ing, the Onus will B on Bones Jones to MAKE the Fight More Fan-Friendly, which Could Come Back to BITE him...

Machida's a GOOD MMA Counterpuncher AND Heavyhanded Enough to Put Any Mans Lights Out, INCLUDING Bones Jones'...Will Jones Fight SMART, Using his Length & Range to Win a Boring Decision???...OR Will he Look to Perform SPECTACULARLY???....

    Can't Wait to See...

    Rapmage beat him also.

I expect Jones to take him to the ground and brutalise machida with g&p

He lost a decision to Rampage but I don't think Page beat him.

That was kind of my point. Rua CLEARLY got the better of Machida in both fights in my opinion. Rampage got a gift decision.

Also, Machida is a pretty difficult guy to take down. Part of the issue is his counter-punching, fleeing style. Shots from a distance are almost silly to attempt.

In the clinch I think Jones can get him down but it won't be easy as you might think. It's probably Machida's Sumo background but the dude almost always out leverages people in clinches.

Again, I don't think ANYTHING is a given in this fight and that's what makes it so interesting.

Judging by their performances against Rampage and Shogun, it's real hard to give Machida much of a chance. Jones easily beat Rampage and Shogun. Machida couldn't beat either of them clearly and got KTFO by Shogun.

    I got Jones by destruction.

I don't think Rampage got anywhere near a gift decision. Machida ended up winning the 3rd more emphatically than Rampage won the slow 1st and 2nd rounds clearly, but slow or not, I don't think there's any argument for giving Machida rounds 1 or 2.

    Clear win for Rampage.

And yeah, Jones should destroy Machida easily.

Rampage himself agrees with ME... So, yeah, I win.

Seriously though, that's not my point. I'm just saying Shogun is the only guy to really solve Machida.

I don't see this as being easy for Jones at all. I think he'll win, but he's got to be careful. Machida is no joke standing or on the ground. I don't think Jones will stop him unless it is on the ground. Jones NEEDS to take this to the ground because I think he'll have a lot of trouble while they are standing.

At the same time, Machida is going to have a harder time being elusive against a guy who covers distance as much as Jones does. Jones will take him down a number of times and get the decision.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Machida go for kneebars and heelhooks. I also see Jones trying to smother him in close and clinch a lot to get throws and takedowns.

Jones has some of the most tiny little chicken legs I have ever seen on a man his size. Machida should definitely look for leg locks and heel hooks.

I actually think Machida is the hardest fight for Jones at 205. If he beats Machida it's smooth sailing from there on. It's all about styles and there is only one Machida and his unique style.

I agree, Machida will not push a pace at all. Will be totally fine being boo'd and counterpunching. At some time, I think Jones will have to take a chance and attack. Which I think will be a good thing, because I see Jones brutalizing Machida when he does. I'm with Trp, it will be very interesting to see the strategy Jones brings.

I maybe wrong, but I think you guys will be shocked at the difficulty Jones will have taking Machida down.

That being said, Jones is quickly becoming one of the most cerebral fighters in MMA. He will have a plan B and a plan C.

Again, I just can't wait to see what he does. Watching him think on his feet against Rampage was one of the most impressive things I've seen from an MMA fighter. He was generally safe but applied enough pressure to slow Rampage before going for the kill. It was genius in how methodical yet unpredictable it was.

You guys were right, Machidles is proving difficult for Jones.

I think I just really underrate Machida, I should have seen it coming, because like I've said many times, Jones's striking is overrated. It's his ground game that impresses me most, plus just huge range and strength etc.

    Very nice :bears:

After getting him down and cutting him, the fight changed, Lyoto seemed done.

    Great guillotine.

Great night of fights. Lil Nog broke tito's ribs. Mir broke Big Nog's arm and Jones broke the dragon's forehead and dropped him like a sack of potatoes.

The first round did seem difficult.

Jones was having trouble, and took a few counters. He did look concerned a bit in his corner.

Utimately though yeah, easy fight. After an even first round he basically just destroyed Machidles, so I take back my earlier post, you guys were only vaguely right

Big Nog deserved to lose. He had him badly wobbled, instead of using hammer fists, he hit him ONCE while mir was sprawled and almost out.

1 out of 3 for the Brazilians tonight.

Jones is a SUPERSTAR and excellent FIGHTER. Pacient, figured out range and the rest is HISTORY.

What an asshole thing Jones did there. I mean Machida is clearly out and he knows it he's the only thing holding Machida up and then he just lets him drop face down like a ton of bricks? And walks away? Initially Jones came off as a very humble nice guy but the asshole nature of his is coming out more and more with each passing day.

I was kind of thinking along the same line too. If he knew he was out, as he claimed, why drop him to the ground like this ??? Assholish thing to do
