Looking forward to this card. While I haven't been impressed with Gustaffson, he does present a different challenge for Jones. Overall the card is good on paper. Phillippou-Carmont is a battle of two of the most underrated MWs in the UFC.
Gustafsson is not very good imo, just a tall ankward guy, and it shows how shitty lhw has become. But sometimes, these guy's are a lot better than they look ( Vitaly, Monzon,...), we'll see if it's the case with Gustafsson, I doubt it.
agREED... Jones has TURNED Lightheavy Into a "Shitty" Division...Prior to Bones, it was UFC's Most Topsy-Turvy Division...Guys FAILING to Defend it Even 1nce or JUST 1nce...Instead of an Iron FIST, Jones is Ruling w/Iron ELBOWS... REED Hasn't Seen Much of Gustaffsson, but LOSING to Phil Davis by Chokeout, Doesn't Bode Well for Him vs. Jones...REED Usually Orders Bones Jones PPV's, but he'll Go to a Sports Bar For This 1... REED
REED Looooooooooves this Quote from Bones, about Gustaffson... “Phil Davis (who handed Gustafsson his only pro loss via submission in 2010) didn’t use any devastating technique or any really, really clean wrestling,” said Jones. “He went out there and made it a dogfight, implemented his will completely, and stole Alexander’s soul in under five minutes. Alexander tapped out after the 10 second bricks had been clapped, and Gustafsson’s soul was taken before that choke was even locked in. If you hear the ten second signal, you don’t tap out, no matter what. Phil had the actual squeeze on for two seconds and he tapped. That let me know that his soul was taken, and if he gives up once, I can’t see why I can’t make him give up again.” REED ps. The Bantamweight Title Fight Should Be EXPLOSIVE...
For What it's Worth, Bones' 2 Most CHALLENGING Bouts (Machida, Belfort) EACH Took Place in the Same Arena as Tonight's Fight... REED
Oh ya you're right. Wow 3 times in Toronto for Bones already. I am actually going to watch this live at the ACC. Card is kinda crap though, but looking forward to seeing Bones do his thing.
You've got give Jones a little credibility when he talks about not tapping. Against Belfort, I got the sense that Jones wouldn't tap even if his arm came off. That being said, Gustaffson has really improved his take down defense since the Davis fight. Decent wrestlers like Hamill and Matyushenko didn't have any success. Personally I don't think wrestling is going to matter. I get the feeling Jones is going punish Gustaffson in the stand-up just to prove a point about reach. Part of the appeal of any Jon Jones fight to me is to watch his amazing ability to think and adjust in the cage. It will be interesting to see his initially strategy.
Yeah, Bones Seems to RELISH Beating Guys @ their Own Game... According to the Pre-Fight Build Up REED has Seen, Gustaffson's Strength is STAND UP...Like You Said, it Wouldn't Surprise REED @ All if Jones Looked to Win the Fight In THAT Fashion...& If he's NOT Matching Up Sooooo Well w/Gustaffson, in that Regard, he Can Always Take him Down & Punish Him... All Signs Point to an IMPRESSIVE Victory for Jones... REED
I'm not picking Gustaffson or anything, but I am looking forward to this fight. I rate Gustaffson much higher than most around here. I think he is an excellent fighter who is up against a great fighter. Every now and then, you get Weidman vs Silva when this happens. I think Gustaffson would beat Vitor up in a fair fight. The glow in the dark version of Vitor? About equal, but with different skillsets. Not sure if Gustaffson hits hard enough to beat Jones, but I think he is skilled enough to land shots.
Disagreed, Shogun and Rampage are shot, Evans, Machida and Henderson are on the way down with the last seemingly not far from shot. The new blood all seems pretty mediocre imo (save Jones), Davis, Gustafsson, Texeira, Bader, all ordinary fighters
Shogun had just Gotten the Better of Machida...Not Really the Actions of a "Shot" Fighter...Machida had a Grand Total of 1 Loss when Bones Jones Destroyed him...Again, Not Really Indicative of a "Shot" Fighter...Evans has ALWAYS Been a Lukewarm, Up & Down Type of Fighter... These Guys were All Playing HOT POTATO w/the Light heavyweight Title, PRIOR to Bones Jones...The Division was VERY Competitive....UNTIL... REED
The point is that Jones came in and absolutely wiped the floor with guys like Machida, Rua, Rampage, etc that no one else was beating easily. It's amazing how shitty a division looks when it's ruled by a dominant champ. They said the same about 185 when Silva was destroying guys.
Gustaffson will get smashed, I don't see how this can be competitive at all. Not that Gus is a bad fighter or anything, but he's way over matched here.
Rogan usefulness is way pas his expiration date. Someone with more professionalism should have been brought up a long time ago to replace him. He brings nothing to the broadcast save for overblowing every submission attemps as fight ending. Don't get me wrong, he's the kind of guy who would be great to have around when watching the fights with your friends, just not a pro broadcast team.
You havent watched Shogun and Rampage fight? Shogun went tooth and nail with Brandon Vera and has been blown away in his last two fights. Rampage was dominated similarly in his next two fights. The division is garbage and Gustaffson isn't great. He's arguably worse than he was before with his stupid Dominick Cruz style.
Well, just as i said that, I thought Rogan did a great job in the Carmont-Philloupou fight, maybe because it was so boring so he couldn't pull his overhyped overdramatic bullshit

Renan Barao is amazingly dangerous. And he wants to go up to 145 soon which has more interesting fights for him. I didn't think Cruz could beat him before the injury and he definitely won't beat him now.
wow i love this fight. Reminds me of an old pride fight. Gustaffson is doing well, but i think jon is winning the fight on the leg kicks and controlling the pace
Ugly fight so far, and that's Gustafsson m.o. As of now, it seems Jones was winning with his size and reach more than his skills, or at least, that his size was a major part of his success.
