Like him or hate him? I used to hate him, primarily because he can take 15 minutes to say something which could be said in 15 seconds (my dad and my flatmate do the same thing and it does my head in ::). Saying that, I've warmed to him recently, the sport is flagging badly right now and it's good to have someone with his enthusiasm in the spotlight. He still goes off on annoying tangents (MWS will remember the "eat your bananas son" rant on Saturday), but they're bearable as long as he's in the right company. I hated him on Setanta because he clearly didn't respect the opinions of the main presenter and would interrupt him or talk over him. When he's paired with the likes of Hatton or that Lillis guy (the most unintentionally funny guy on television) he can be entertaining. What say my UK brethren? By the way, I have to say I'm actually starting to prefer the car boot sale production values of BoxNation and Primetime to the slick and polished broadcasts of Sky, something funny will usually happen or be said on them.
By the way, I'd also like to see Hatton as a studio guest more often. I wasn't a fan of him as a fighter but he was hilarious on Saturday night.
The Bunce is awesome, he should do HBO broadcast too imo. He's as essential to the sport as The Voice was to K-1. Not necesseraly the most professional but simply the most memorable
I want that Lillis bloke back too, with his gormless little face. He was great during the Cotto-Margarito II broadcast
:: :: I miss him too, his gormless little face and high pitched, old school cockney voice. The way he said Cotto was hilarious, and he kept mispronouncing something but I can't remember what it is.
Bunce is a cool dude. Never really disliked him and he knows his stufff. He's a personality and is funny in his own unique way and I admire his enthusiasm.
Nah, lager louts are loud, obnoxious and abrasive. Bunce is loud, jovial and excitable, more like a big kid, that's kind of why I like him.
He has surrendered to the corporate dollar but is probably one of the most catholic feeders in the business. There is literally nothing, especially on the UK scene, that he doesn't know of or hasn't covered. Knows the score even if he tells his paymasters otherwise.
I used to feel exactly the same as you and Hut to be fair, but I think as he's been shoved in my face every time I want to watch boxing I've had to learn to like him ::. He is knowledgeable though, and he works well as a "double act".
You mean Holdsworth? That guy was awesome, he sounded like he wanted to kill himself watching some of the worst boxers ever in the backwaters of Portugal or Lithuania ::. Is he still around? I haven't watched boxing on Eurosport in years
Sorry, Steve Holdsworth, I agree the guy was awesome :: And I really have no idea, same as you I literally haven't watched Eurosport in years and years.
I was trying to find some Holdsworth videos but they all seem to have been removed. The guy was hilarious. Here are some quotes from Chagaev V Fields: "Well, let's just hope he does a Robert Davis on Sedreck Fields and lands a knockout punch in the very 1st rd which I doubt actually which is a bit of a shame." "And Fields is well I think next to useless personally, but that's my own personal opinion. Y'know he's not only incredibly annoying, but he does pick up the odd win now-and-then...sadly." "And one thing Sedreck Fields doesn't have, ahah, as well as not having much of a right hand, he's got no left hook to speak of either." "...'please point out Sedreck Fields' best attributes'. Well I'll tell you what they are actually, um, we don't see them that often." "Please stay down Sedrick. Yep, he has." "So Sedreck Fields beaten in 2 rds here by Ruslan Chagaev, and that's put me out of my misery, and hopefully you as well." ------------ "And here's Roy Jones... highly skilled, Olympic medallist, former P4P great, multi-weight world champion... and a manic egoist."
:atu: I forgot just how funny Holdsworth was, he used to make those scrubby Eurosport fights 10 times more enjoyable.
