Very interesting fight, really a pick-em... Interestingly, the best punch in each man's arsenal was also the very same punch they were each most susceptible to... I don't know that I can recall such a strange paradox

Think of it: Roger had a corker of a right hand... but he was also most vulnerable defensively to right hands... McGirt banked heavily on the timing and sharpness of his hard left hook, but that was also the same punch he sometimes had difficulty with defensively

Oddly, neither guy has the correct weapon to truly inspire fear/respect in the other

I see this as a battle of Roger's jab versus Buddy's ability to find openings and opportunities for countershots...

While, as I stated, McGirt's right hand didn't pack the same heat as his hook, it was nonetheless a secondary weapon he would often use if he found the hook difficult to land, and he tended to throw in an overhand, chopping motion (nothing like the straight and true beauty of Mayweather's right) ... the thing for me is can Buddy create opportunities for that punch against a guy who is already able to defend quite well against hooks and who, for that reason, wouldn't be altering his approach any out of fear/respect? I believe he could but that it would take time, and would require McGirt to try and counter Roger's jab with bodywork, get Roger to bend forward so that he can get that chopping right in over the top

Conversely, can Roger perhaps present himself in such a way as to encourage McGirt to think 'hook" and then try to snake in a right hand?

It's a terrific matchup, very hard to call... I think McGirt is probably the steadier and more durable 140 pounder and in the end, despite being arguably the lesser puncher, he manages to land the more telling shots as the fight goes on, earning him a close decision win

Uncle Roger beats him. McGirt was not very good, IMHO. Buddy should have gotten fat and taken towel-throwing lessons at a much earlier age than he eventually did.
