The talk of Bredahl, McCullough etc, got me thinking. Name some lower weight fighters who were undoubtedly elite, but short of great. Think guys like Tatsuyoshi, Hasegawa. That sorta level.

The lower weights being 118 and below.

And God help the poor bastard who names Ricardo Lopez.

Guty Espadas immediately came to mind.

Not Ricardo Lopez, but certainly relating to Lopez, Rosendo Alvarez is underrated.

I updated my post to include Rosendo Alvarez.

Hiroshi Kawashima deserves mention, making it impressive that Penalosa dominated him.

Plus, some mentions of my own: Duke McKenzie, Yoko Gushiken & Pedlar Palmer.

Gushiken is the Hall, so I wouldn't call him underrated.

If anything, it kinda pisses me off that Gushiken is in, and Watanabe isn't, when Jiro is the better fighter with the better resume.

I've seen Arce called one of the best ever at 108, a great win for Carbajal, and one of Mexico's best ever. To me, that's overrating him. Granted, none of those were said on here so maybe he's not on FB. I don't think he was as good as Joichiro was, no.

And btw, Tatsuyoshi beat Ayala. But yeah, Paulie could make the list.

tatsuyoshi was fortunate to get the decision over ayala with the timing of the stoppage. he was losing, to me. and i never liked ayala. but win for win i cant see any argument for tatsuyoshi being better than arce.

arce was young as hell when he blew it vs carbajal. then came back and battered a good fighter in choi

Joichiro was merely a "good" fighter. Nothing more. Are you sure you're not trying to prop him up to make Sahaprom look better? Lol.

Arce in destroying Sam Choi impressed me more than any Joichiro performance.

Lol, no that's not what I'm doing.

I'm not disputing that Arce shouldn't be mentioned, or saying he's a whole level below Tatsuyoshi. I'm just saying, from opinion I've read on Arce, I don't think he fits the underrated part of thread. I'm not saying he's a bad fighter. I like him a lot, he was always entertaining. But even so, Tatsuyoshi impressed me more vs Richardson than Arce ever has. I think he was definitely a better fighter with a better, although not by a great distance. Arce defo has him beat in terms of longevity.

Gerry Penalosa could qualify, if you don't class him as great.
