I've modified the initial post so people understand why he's getting the award. Juan is a fantastic champion and is deserving of the recognition.

Congrats to Juan !!! I think I'm starting to like Diaz. I know I always look forward to his fights, and as he steps up his comp, he's proving more and more that he's the real deal.

No way bro, and even he wouldn't say that as he admires Floyd as a great fighter.
Juan is a realist, and let us not forget, he is only 23 years old.

very true Karl. And the kid is a class act. He's a good fighter who works hard man. Mayweather is supernatural. But still, you have to admire Juan for how he gets the job done.

I think he was just teasing Double L, who is notorious for picking his favourite fighters (or anyone for that matter) over Floyd.

Diaz is a very good fighter, btw.

I don't think I've ever seen Double L pick a fight correctly. He probably had Gatti over Mayweather.

Don't know about Gatti, but he did pick Baldomir against Floyd.

i've picked plenty right. and i've already explained the baldomir thing. it's just you're a thick-headed bitch who has nothing better to do than hound people on message boards and pollute it with your pathetic insecurities and teenage angst. you're a real piece of work. if you could somehow see yourself, objectively, you'd be so embarrassed - you might even decide it's time to call it quits (which may be your best option anyways).

What exactly is the award for?

Either way, after seeing him live against Freitas, I'm a big Diaz fan. He's fun and he throws punches. Unlike other boxers, he actually wants to fight.

Carlos and I were discussing a Fighter of the Month Award for April, is all.
That mandatory he has coming up is no pushover, even though I picked Guzman to win that fight had it not fallen through.

Diaz needs to fight Casamayor. He's not THE Champ until he does so. Casamayor, whether or not he is actually stripped of the WBC belt is the Champ at lightweight.

So Joel is the champ after he has not fought in a year, huh?
Joel and his promoter are strapped for cash, bottom line.
Come on bro, you need to turn off the volume on the tv and tune into reality.
No one here is a bigger fan of Joel's than I am, and I told you guys he would beat (and did beat) Castillo, IMO.
Juan is far too young, too strong,m throws too many punches, and too well-conditioned for the fading Cuban great, and Joel is no drawing card, either.

I don't think *Z* is necessarily saying that Casamayor would beat Diaz, just that he should in order to be considered the champ. Similar to how everyone knew Mayweather would handle Baldomir, but you have to get into the ring and do it.

Even though Casamayor is faded and i would favor Diaz, i can't think of a better in the ring learning experience than against Joel.

Nor can I bro, but Joels' management has turned down several offers already to get it on with the kid.
I was a fan of Casamayor's ever since I saw him win the world amateur championships twenty years ago.
Luis DeCuba isn't making any money with the Cuban great by having him in the storage room, and the pair are strapped for money right now.
No way he takes Diaz, just won't happen.

If Casamayor's people didn't want Diaz before his last fight they certainly won't want him now. Makes you wonder what they're waiting for? It's not like there's a lot of big money fights out there for him. Perhaps they were hoping Freitas beat Diaz?

    Joel is broke, bro.
He hasn't fought in a year and is not exactly a fan-friendly fighter, either.

But that begs the question, why won't he fight Diaz if there's an offer on the table. If a guy is that broke and has a hard time finding fights, he must have been delivered a pretty seriously low number?

Whiskey: the offer was made back in summer of 2005.
Joel (or more likely, Joel's people) turned it down flat.

I'm not doubting an offer was made. I'm just wondering why they would reject it given Joel's circumstances. Is he getting management advice from Nacho?

    Maybe, bro.
I think that fight would have been a pick 'em then with a trilogy deciding the series, but I think Juan routs him big time on points now.
