    Mayorga SD 12 Vargas!!

Mayorga fought a "technical fight", for him anyways.
Mayorga knocked Vargas down in the first and in eleventh.

Vargas looked as bad as most of us expected!!!

    Hopefully Vargas is retired now.

It was a damn good fight. Better than what I expected. I'm glad I ordered it.

    The Cintron/Feliciano was good also.:slap:

    It was an MD.

But yeah, Vargas looked absolutely terrible.

Hopefully he stays true to his word. He's been so emphatic about it I don't doubt him....he looked relieved it was over.

    Peace.

Forgive me Donny. I am more shot than Vargas. And have had more beers than he has had. But we're both punch drunk.

I am upset. The first KO came courtesy of blows to the back of the head and I counted about 12 other punches the entire fight Mayo threw that were clean effective blows. I know that with 2 knockdosns it is hard to get a decision but I thought Vargas landed a lot more clean effective punches. Even as bad as he looked the 11th could easilyhave been a 10-9 round and at best I would have called it a draw.

Yes its truly time for Nando to go. In his prime, he'd have battered Mayo.

Good thread title. This is a bad fight to ruin for someone. Thanks.

Mayweather-Fatton won't be as entertaining as that fight.

His body looked real bad. He was effective when he let his hands go and obviously his defence was much better then Mayos. Without the 2 KD's it's possible that Vargas could have won the fight.

Yes, true.. but it's kind of academic, isn't it?

I think both knockdowns were really, really weak in that they both really had Vargas more off-balance than anything else, and also the first one was really from a shot to the back of the head as you say. Vargas seems so sure-footed when he is in his stance, but cripes does he lose his balance easily, it's disturbing.

Which is really my point - Vargas is so shot that the technicalities of this fight don't matter. Vargas just plain looked awful, but not awful in a global scale, rather awful compared to what we know he was once capable of. Having seen him in his prime is what makes him seem so bad tonight. His balance is gone, his chin is gone, his power is gone, his legs are gone, his speed is gone, and even his ability to adapt and his intelligence as a fighter is gone. All this and he still pretty much drew with Mayorga IMO.

I suppose form a career pride standpoint it would have been nice to go out with a win, but other than that I can't muster up any true passion to criticize the bad calls. I just hope Fernando stays away from the ring for good now.

    I knew Vargas would lose.

Historically, Vargas will be remembered as a Great This and a Great That, when, in truth, he was a journeyman who wouldn't have been fit to swab the latrine in Gleasons in any other decade than the 90's

And yet, he still achieved by the age of 29 ten times more that Vitaly Klitschko in his entire career. Weird, isn't it?
