The first LEGENDARY thread that I remember on the old S/O forums. The Tito-Vargas fight was polarizing.

Nothing like two undefeated champions in their primes, from different cultures, going at it for all the marbles.

That thread featured all of the secondsout legends in their primes and at their posting peak! Phonetap and Everlast in particular were revealed in that they lead the charge for each opposing team. Who remembers that?

What other fights over the last ten years or so of boxing forums have generated so much discussion? And why?

I started posting as a 16-year-old in 2000, though I have followed since ten. First massive one online I recall, vividly in fact, was Hopkins-Trinidad.

S/O was a great forum! At it's peak it was probably one of the best forums. Only drawback was I kept getting Banned from David Leeder AKA Buddy Rydell ;)

I watch Tito vs Vargas all the time, I love that fight. It was really a great fight. Vargas was a good fighter then and the guy was pure heart.

Seems no one can quite believe anyone my age would favour older fighters over newer ones as much as I do, but honestly, I am painfully aware Boxing did not commence with my birth.

Youre right --- I just surmise the game has gone more backwards than forwards overall.

Yeah, the Tito-Vargas thread is still the biggest/best pre-fight thread Ive ever seen on ANY forum! Hell, the thread had me more hyped than the promos.

Then of course, soon as Tito knocked him out... the whole Island joined the forum within minutes.

Until Sept 29, 2001..... when for some reason the Island mysteriously disappeared.

I remember those times. Those were the days. Lol.

I was 18 at the time and had joined the secondsout forum earlier that year. I wanna say I joined it sometime prior to Mosley-De La Hoya 1.

But yeah 2000 was really a GREAT YEAR for boxing. So many big fights got made that year and wars. The anticipation of Trinidad and Vargas meeting was off the page for sure. And the discussions and debates were intense. The whole forum was DIVIDED.

    Great times.

Golden Era in message board history. The entire forum was divided, virtually 50-50 on that fight. Just like the odds for the actual fight. I remember being in the midst of those discussions.

On this forum, the amount of people who thought that Mayweather/Gatti would be anything other than a slaughter was absolutely stunning to me

even more amazing were the idiots who tried to suggest after the fact that Gatti fought the wrong fight!!! as if he had a choice in the matter!! its like saying Lou Bizzarro "fought the wrong fight" against Duran

The only person i can actually recall thinking it would competitive at all is the all knowing Oracle PetreTG.

Did Gatti fight the wrong fight? Yeah, but that made about .003 percent difference.

If you watch the HBO preview show for Mayweather-Gatti, they are trying so hard to sell it as a competitive matchup, it's kind of funny.

"How is Mayweather going to react when he finds out that this guy is willing to die in the ring?"

    Um, punch him some more?
