He is survived by his son, Carlos Baldomir, and when Vernon shut him out 12 zip, he was shot.

This is a strange story. One would imagine that these guys would have pulled out their guns to car jack him and that, when Forrest pulled out his piece, they would have shot him right away. How did Forrest manage to start running after them?

If they didn't show their guns and Forrest ran after them, they might claim self defense. It's scary but these guys might get away with just an attempted car jacking charge.

Aw shit, have always been a fan of the viper, underrated fighter. That really sucks. In fairness though, what was he doing chasing those fucks while armed? especially with the kid in the back of the car...rip vernon :-(

Damn. This is fucking crazy. Arguello, Gatti and Forrest in a matter of weeks.

I agree with salaco though. Of course he didn't deserve to get shot in the head, but what on earth was he doing chasing them anyway?

The American mentality of guns are good and if you have one all criminals are fucked, because every Average Joe is Dirty Harry and the criminals are all blind. Who was the idiot, who said he wants to be robbed, so he can shoot the robbers.

yeah, if you were looking for an argument against allowing every regular joe to have a gun permit, there it is. If the guns were taken away, yeah sure vernon might have been car-jacked, but chances are he'd still be alive to tell the tale.

Indeed. Simply - if Vernon didn't have a gun, he probably wouldn't have given chase (in case they had guns), there would have been no shootout, and probably wouldn't have been shot.

He might have lost his car, but so what.

    RIP VIPER

    Sorry to hear about this.

I was a fan and supporter of Vernon at one time (Big Time, comparing him to Emile Griffith at one point after he beat Shane in the return), but lost that when he became inactive and talked smack about Cory Spinks and Zab Judah amongst others without getting in the ring with them, which turned me off on a permanent basis from the guy.

Many fighters, many Champions persevered on with physical ailments to garnish multiple titles, but that is neither here nor there.

    Rest In Peace Brave Warrior.

    Karl

What does Chris Henry think about this, Stinger? He's had a brush with violence on the streets I'm sure. Does he carry a piece for protection?

I got sick to my stomach when I heard this. We lost an amazing fighter but worse a son lost his father. So very very tragic.

    very tragic

He did a lot of really nice things for the mentally handicapped, remember when he won the title from Mosley and ran out to the section of the crowd where some of the folks he helped were?

    RIP

His domination of Mosley is one of the most impressive displays I've ever seen. He took a top 3 p4p fighter and made him look like he was nothing. A very good fighter, and had he not been injuried, probably could have been a hall of famer. He was also a class act out of the ring helping out special kids. This is sad day in boxing along with Gatti and Arguello.

    RIP champ

Vernon took away all the hype from Mosley that night. I still remember how shocked my bro and I were when Forrest nearly decapitated him on the ropes. Fucking thugs.

I think that was the second fight. I remember that.

This is heartbreaking. Low life thugs doing their usual.
