Yeah, this notion of Marquez, who never beat the shit out of anyone like Paz in his life, just having his way is beyond me. But Marquez is probably just too refined and wins a decision. At 168, Paz beats the fucking crap out of him. We know that JMM struggles with guys who weigh 160 and more. :crafty: Truth be told, Paz stood in with better fighters like Herol Graham, Roy Jones and did better than Marquez could ever hope to have done. But at 135, I gots to go with JMM.
You are seriously underestimating Pazienza. Marquez hasn't come close to shutting out anyone at 135 and Paz is at least as good as Diaz and Casamayor.
I think this is a tougher fight than most do...and it's not just because I am a Pazmaniac. Marquez is a very good, rather than great, Lightweight and hasn't dominated anyone so far at that weight. Marquez had tough fights with both Casamayor and Diaz, and I wouldn't pick either over Paz. Paz's chin and toughness eliminates a KO win for Marquez so this one is going to the scorecards. I can see Paz jumping out to an early lead and Marquez getting into his groove a few rounds later. The difference between this fight and the other two mentioned is that Paz doesn't fall late and is full of fight until the final bell. On paper, Marquez's more polished skills get him the win, but Paz's workrate, hand speed and sometimes unconventional style give Marquez fits and makes him a very live underdog.
True. But you are able to look past the hate and give a realistic view of the fight. Which makes you a rare breed of boxing fan. And is also why I always respect your opinions, even when we are on different sides of the discussion.
Pazienza, however, exhibits the single worst trait you can possess against Marquez --- he's open defensively. You look at Pacquiao, a supremely-gifted fighter in many areas, for instance. Is Marquez physically stronger than Pacquiao? No. Bigger? No. Faster? No. Heavier-handed? No. More offensively-varied? No. Busier? No. Why, then, all the trouble with Marquez? It was down to one simple reason --- when you're available to be hit, it's very, very difficult to beat a fighter like Marquez. His precision, his timing, his accuracy, especially off the back-foot, are such that even fighters as prodigious as Pacquiao invariably run into serious, serious trouble. I don't see Pazienza as capable of overcoming this fatal flaw. I don't mean to come across as waxing lyrical about a fighter I obviously have so much time for, but I don't think Pazienza pushes him all that far. It wouldn't be an easy night, but I don't think it taxes Marquez's full abilities. IMO, his two outings at 135lbs. belie how good he is at the weight. If time were on his side, I think he could surprise quite a few nay-sayers with a long & distinguished reign.
Thanks, my friend Paz was a good fighter, for sure The fact that I wished for him to be decapitated and his greasy, filthy, orangish head punted into the upper deck has no bearing on wether or not he could fight he could and he'd definitely compete with Marquez in this fight... I just think his defense and JMM's defense would be the reason he'd lose
I think you kinda are a little. Me...I'm gonna have to go by what I have actually seen of Marquez at 135 rather than imagine how good he might be based on his performances at a different weight.
Well, firstly, thank you for that. It's nice to have an outside viewpoint on one's own objectivity --- something which is always in jeopardy when we speak of fighters we have particular impressions of. Secondly, I fully understand the criticisms levelled at Marquez as a Lightweight. I just feel, with six or seven fights, instead of just two, he would (& may yet still) impress further at the weight.
