I'm glad it's on ESPN. That said, I guess I missed the thread explaining how Juan Carlos Gomez got to be a mandatory. :dunno:

Compared to some of their previous mandatories, I think Gomez's credentials stack up.

Gomez is one of the very few guys in the division I would bother watching. Good mandatory, IMO

Doesn't Gomez Have a "History" of Getting the Best of Vitali N Sparring????...

That Always ADDS a Bit of Intrigue to a Fight...

That's what Gomez says. However, with a style like his and big gloves and headgear it's entirely possible. Getting hit by Vitali with smaller gloves and no headgear and having him actually go for the kill is a totally different matter.

maybe by being forced to fight another and another eliminator for the WBC... He waited long enough and is probably the most worthy challenger possible right now. Are you aware of the heavy-situation these days?? :dunno:

Yes, I'm painfully aware. I guess I'll give you guys the benefit of the doubt. There's been worse mandatories no doubt. It just seems like it's been years since I've even seen Gomez fight and I don't see anybody on his resume that should have leapfrogged him up to #1 contender.............eliminators included.

But yeah, everybody else sucks to.

Gomez is quite possibly the best heavyweight not named Klistschko. I rate him #3.

I wish he had gotten the WBA belt and some notoriety before fighting one of the twin towers.

Draw against Chagaev on my scorecard, although painfully dull fight. Lost a bit of money on the Gomez/Virchis fight. I thought Gomez wouldn´t be able to tough it out, that he not only outclassed Virchis, but knocked him on his a** was really surprising to me.

In a toe-to-toe fight Virchis is pretty good. He is big, strong and mean. However if the opponent is able to take a half a step from time to time, he becomes pretty useless

That's a bit like Valuev too,.. very difficult to beat if you come straight to him, but he turns into a useless scrub if you run around a bit.

I noticed that it was only scheduled for 1 hr.
It could easily go longer than that.
    Adjust tivos accordingly.

After a little chasing, Vitali should pop his arse after the 5th round somewhere,... that is the beauty of heavyweights,.. it's very hard to 'run' carrying 230+ pounds, Gomez will slow down and Vitali should begin to tap Gomez in all the right places,.. Im not impressed with the cuban shit-talker at all, I dont know what everybody else is seeing??... I dont consider this a 'risky' fight for Vitali,... Virchis is a strong man, with hard mittens,.. but he's also the stiffest slowest skilless robot I've ever seen,..it's a wise decision for him to retire,...Gomez on the other hand can move a little but not enough to 'pot and steal' rounds, Vitali has stopped 'movers' before like Larry Donald,.. Larry, like Gomez,.. looked good shutting out a slow 1 dimensional target in Valuev,... but Vitali has very good footwork and dexterity for a man his size and 'moving' will only delay the inevitable by a few rounds.

I haven't seen any and I watch ESPN quite a bit. If European promoters thought about this, it makes alot of sense. Most of their fights never reach any American audience. Letting ESPN broadcast their fights in the states could build huge PPV numbers in the future.

    didn't Vitali K K. Johnson TFO too?

Gomez was a good cruiserweight but I don't think he's big enough to compete at heavyweight in a serious fight.
