His record says he stopped Williams. How did it go down? Charr is a young hungry lion! An undefeated young lion at that.
The only thing debatable is just how horrible that stoppage was. Damn, Williams just unloaded about 20 punches on the guy, Charr fires 3 back and the ref jumps in and stops it. Stragely, Williams doesn't even complain.
Hard to say... he's up there, for sure... When Floyd Patterson was fighting everybody except the dangerous contenders during his "reign", he fought some truly awful comp, most notably Tom McNeeley and Pete Rademacher (pro debut)... it would be tough to top those guys, but neither was really considered a true "contender", either. The boxing guys of the time knew damn well that D'Amato was trying to keep Patterson away from Liston, Folley, Machen, etc.... He figured Ingemar would be no problem and that blew up in his face. Credit to Patterson for eventually demanding that he get Liston (probably to his everlasting regret) As far as guys who are seriously ranked in the top 10, this particular era shits on all others for the title of "Shittiest Era Ever", with the exception of the 1920s and pre-1920s stone age where such skill-less behemoths as Fred Fulton could be found awkwardly lurching around, throwing one haymaker at a time... I remember Ramonza used to always list Fulton among the illustrious list of supposedly great opponents Jack Dempsey beat, implying that defeating Fred Fulton was somehow a better win than Lennox Lewis defeating, say, Tony Tucker.
