http://www.fightline.com/fl/news/2010/0829/531385/vitor-belfort/index.shtml Man, that really is a good one. I give a slight edge to Vitor standing. Dunno about on the ground.
Great matchup. Hats off to Joe Silva for making the tough fights. Belfort was in line for a shot at Anderson but the Sonnen rematch put that on hold. So does the UFC give Belfort a softie while he waits? Hell no.. Love this fight and I'm glad Vitor is going to actually have to get a win at 185 before challenging for the title......against Sonnen......AHHHHHHA.
I've never liked immediate rematches, especially when there is something else available on the horizon. I wish it was Silva-Belfort instead.
I really want the Sonnen-Silva rematch to see how Silva tries to change things despite actually winning the first fight. That being said, if a Silva loss to Sonnen robs us of a Belfort-Silva matchup with Silva at the top of the division, it will suck.
For me, Silva-Sonnen 2 had to be made asap.... Surprised they've give Belfort such a difficult one. I guess it makes sense that they didn't give him anyone who's already fought and been beaten by Anderson.
If a guy get's submitted, he should not get a rematch right away. I don't care how close Chael came to beating Anderson, he tapped the fuck out! It's like losing by KO and getting a rematch, it's some bullshit. This wasn't BJ Penn vs Edgar 1 or Machida vs Shogun where is was a shady decision. Sonnen tapped. I'm not big Silva fan, but that is fucked.
First and foremost....it was a great fight!...If ever there was a fight to please the fans, and likely to deliver....it is the rematch...guaranteed to do big numbers and we won't need endure UFC trying their hardest to convince us that the fight will be competitive, like they've had to do throughout Silva's reign. There's no outstanding contender....Belfort brings excitement and danger, but lets face it....his title shot that fell through was an absolute gift. Say if Penn beat Edgar on Saturday, Maynard would have been up to fight for the title next because he so clearly warrants it. That's not the case here. And Sonnen of all people, deserves it.....he basically sold that fight single-handidly....i struggle to remember, even in boxing, one guy pushing an upcoming fight harder than that...and in stark comparison to Silva. He sold a lot of PPVs that night, and that performance will sell even more next time around. He won't even need to hype it up himself, but no doubt he will.
Actually it's a comparison that proves both points. Taylor deserved a rematch but didn't get an immediate one. I don't think Z is saying that Sonnen doesn't deserve a rematch. I think he just means it doesn't have to be right away.
I think they should both have another fight before a rematch. Sonnen did good and I'm not saying send him to the back of the line, but the fight wasn't that exciting to me, I'm not a lover of the human blanket style which is the only way Sonnen wins. What's the difference between what Sonnen did and what Maynard just did to Florian? For some reason people call Sonnen vs Anderson exciting and hate Gray Maynard for basically fighting the same way.
The style wasn't what made the fight exciting. It was fun because no one had ever manhandled Silva like that. Plus lets be honest, the time they spent on their feet was 1000 times more exciting than the time Maynard and Florian did. At least Sonnen and Silva tried to take each other's heads off in the striking.
