Let's not even bother discussing Golov vs Canelo/Cotto winner. Nobody can make a reasonable case for Ginger or Miggy winning.

After all these years, I STILL believe that Ward has the edge in this matchup, but obviously it's a fight where Golov is a live underdog.

    Who wins?

I'd favour Ward slightly because he's bigger and has fought better fighters but GGG is more than a serious threat, the guy has proper boxing skills and hits like a beast. It would be interesting to see if Ward could shut down his offence, that'd be impressive.

    Yeah, Ward would beat GGG.

Too many advantages: Size, height, reach, age, speed, style. Has Ward ever actually been hurt?

Still...GGG would be competitive, to say the least, and Ward would have to be at his best to ensure victory.

I think Golovkin would outbox him.

If it's a catchweight rather than straight to 168 and no tune-up against a bigger fighter i'll go with GGG. I'm not sure how well Golovkin can handle hit and hold tactics but I think he can overcome it.

GGG shouldn't take the fight though unless Ward becomes a household name and it's for big dollars. Too much risk, too little reward as it is.

GGG needs to call out Mayweather. Insult him the way Hatton did, when Mayweather was last retired. Contrary to popular opinion, I believe Floyd would be willing to take that fight.

Id pick Ward but I'd root heavily for Golovkin.

I can't see him taking it. Triple G is just too big for him and Floyd won't go to 160. He'd offer a ridiculous catch weight and Golovkin's team won't take that.

If Floyd fights again, it'll be against a non-threatening opponent I think.

I'm kinda thinking that too, it's a definite possibility. People harp on about his power but they forget he's actually an excellent technician.

Mayweather will never fight GGG. He spent years running away from the little Filipino outside of the ring and then did the same inside of it. Are you sure you've never done any drugs?

Yep. Every time a guy has a reputation as puncher people tend to believe they'll have massive problems against anybody who is elusive. GGG does not load up shots and rely purely on his power. He's very methodical and accurate. How many people predicted Golovkin would dominate Lemieux with his jab alone? Obviously Lemieux is not in Ward's class but Golovkin has shown multiple times already how versatile he is. If that fight happens it's not going to be a replay of Hopkins-Trinidad even if Ward comes out on top.

Sly's mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell and a fearless warrior out of Floyd Mayweather.

Golovkin would fuck Mayweather's ass and make him humble.

This is true. Also people tend to call a quick, dancing guy a 'technical boxer' while actually Golovkin is among the best technicians at the moment. His footwork, accuracy and balance are all excellent. His defense can get sloppy when he gets the upper hand, but against Lemieux he didn't take five clean punches in the first four rounds or so when he was fully concentrated.

Last time Golovkin was defeated was n the Olympic Final of 2004 where Russian Gaydar Gaydarbekov held him shamelessly at every opportunity. That might be promising for Ward. Then again, it is different to survive an amateur fight with amateur gloves with such tactics than it is to do that against matured Golovkin.

I don't know who I'd pick as of yet, perhaps Ward because of his size and being so much more proven but damn what a fight it could be

    lol

Floyd would indeed demand a catchweight, or GGG to come all the way down to 154lbs. But I can see Floyd taking that fight. He's braver than people now claim he is.

At the time he fought De la Hoya, many (including me) thought he may have bitten off more than he can chew. His father didn't want him to fight Oscar. We look back and say "oscar was shot" but it was a very dangerous fight at the time.

Thanks. Didn't know that. THIS may change things. Still that was 10 years ago or so, and he was just 21 at the time. Since then he's fought Kessler and Froch and others.

Indeed it means fucking nothing right now. Ward has proven himself beyond any shadow of a doubt. But if Golovkin can connect flush on that chin, things WILL get interesting.

It was dangerous as in a potential loss. Triple cute is dangerous as in potential loss of life!

Plus, the upside was huge in the first case (it made him) - worth a risk. Its negligible in this case. Floyd isn't a man in search of sporting greatness for its own sake.

    Hahahahahaha!

You guys are very funny I must admit. Mayweather is still underrated. Floyd hardly gets hit and you can't hurt what you can't hit. Secondly, his chin is decent...proven over time. He took a few hard shots from guys like De La Hoya, Judah, Cotto...if his chin was weak at least one of those guys would have exposed it.

I hear you though on the fact that Oscar was worth the risk vs GGG. But IF GGG gets the fight with the Cotto-Alvarez winner and dominates him as expected, he may become the bonafide superstar of the sport and so fighting him will be worth the risk

Yeah but why fight to do that when GGG could achieve this by simply being cute

He may fight him too late for his own good a la Roy Jones. If he ever fights GGG my whole picture of him would change. I can't see him taking that risk. Maybe he has to at some point when his value as a sports attraction has decreased and he cannot dictate terms like he could earlier.

How many PPVs did he sell vs. Berto?
