In amongst the usual pre-fight ramble for Saturday's huge 'All British' Cruiserweight World Unification title fight with Enzo Maccarinelli in London's O2 arena, some interesting point's from David Haye, who many will be aware plans to move up to HW, win or lose on Saturday (he had a fight scheduled with Hasim Rahman prior to agreeing terms with Werren to fight Enzo):

"David Haye believes Enzo Maccarinelli will be an easier fight than Jean Marc Mormeck - his last opponent.

Haye faces Maccarinelli in London on Sunday and the winner will be crowned undisputed cruiserweight champion.

And Haye feels that Maccarinelli has underestimated him despite his win over Mormeck, which saw him rise from the canvas to claim the WBC and WBA belts.

"They watched that fight, saw me knocked down, heard me complaining and thought 'let's get him'," said Haye.

Haye also revealed that despite the confident noises coming from Maccarinelli, the WBO title-holder, he does not expect him to represent a tougher challenge than Mormeck, who he beat in seven rounds in November.

"I've trained for a tougher fight than Mormeck, but I don't expect it," he said.

"If he doesn't realise how good I am, he's got a decent team around him so they must know. I just feel I am a better athlete than him."

It was one of the worst shows of a boxing match I've ever seen in my life

    David Haye

Haye, 27, also reiterated his intention to move up to heavyweight after Saturday's fight.

The Londoner has made no secret of the problems he has had at making the cruiserweight limit and Haye was unimpressed with heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko's recent victory over Sultan Ibragimov.

"Watching it, I was ashamed to be a boxer," said the 27-year-old Haye. "It was one of the worst shows of a boxing match I've ever seen in my life.

"If that's the best I've got to worry about then I might be heavyweight champion quicker than I think.

"Showtime are screening my fight with Maccarinelli in the States, so the Americans will be able to see the future of heavyweight boxing over the next few years."

Can't knock the lad for saying it like it is, huh?

Does anyone whose actually seen Haye fight think he has a shot in what is a pretty awful H/W division right now?

Well nobody will give Haye a chance in hell against Wlad, but at the right odds I´d lay money on Haye to land the first big punch and then it´s lightsout for Wlad.

Saying he's "future of heavyweight boxing" is saying it like it is?

I was refering to the 'Wlad fight was boring' part. I thought the thread title might have indicated this also? :dunno:

    I'm not so sure.

In any era of decent HW's, Haye wouldn't have much of a hope or prayer. But in this one, he'd be live against 90% of those currently out there, at worst IMO.

I'd definitely have given him a live chance against that lump Hasim Rahman.

I don't think he beats Wlad though, obviously...

Rahman? Does he even still fight? I can think of at least 15 heavyweights better than that guy right now and I only know of 16 in total.

Rahman is totally washed-up. He should be target numero uno, if you think your prospect can walk in a straight line.

Oh, so that's why you bolded this line: "If that's the best I've got to worry about then I might be heavyweight champion quicker than I think."

Well, you see. I emboldened the first part as it was relevant to the title of the thread. I emboldened the second part as it was relevant to the debate which has herein been sparked after I then went on to ask:

The thread would have been incredibly docile and pointless if it was simply 'David Haye said the Wlad fight was shit' and no more, would it not?

Imo, it will be better for boxing if the guy sticking around cruiserweight wins. It would suck to get 3/4 belts unified and then run away to greener pastures.

Haye talks plenty of shit but I like how he'll jump at any challeneg that is put in front of him, if he beats maccarinelli,l he will have made the only two fights at cruiserweight that I care about (sorry USS)...he shows up in shape, he's got a personality, has power and is vulnerable enough to have me tuning in whenever he fights...war haye!!11

Wlad-Ibragimov was the most shamefull fight by far I have ever witnessed. At least, with the Bite, you had something to talk about.

It really was. I'm glad I didn't persuade my girlfriend to stay up and watch it.

I'm not sure why people like ElTerrible think he would have a chance of KOing wlad though, sure he is a big puncher at cruiserweight but he IS a cruiserweight.

Why do you guys think he'll still be able to bang like that at heavy? He'll be an undersized heavy.

    He's 6'3, but pretty slender.

Although I would be rooting for the Hayemaker I would have to pick Wlad by KO in the first 3 rounds.

Haye would beat Klitschko purely on the basis that the latter wouldn't be throwing much in the former's direction.

what i can't believe is that Wlad is famous. he should be shunned by the boxing community and made to fight in ballroom boxing.

Wlad had one bad fight. Why so much hate? Before that he KO'd 4 guys in a row. What other HW's are knocking out 4 top ten guys in a row? His last fight ws boring, but so is every Floyd Mayweather fight and he gets praised for it.

Haye will get his chinny ass stopped by Wlad easily.

just because a fighter manages to knock his opponent out in the end doesn't mean it wasn't a boring fight.

I'll be rooting for Haye too. I don't like Enzo. No real reason why, I just don't like him. I don't think he's anything special either.

He's alright, but I think Mormeck is better for example, so Haye should be able to bash Enzo.
