http://www.espn.co.uk/ufc/sport/story/53093.html?CMP=OTC-RSS Looks like they're gonna unify the WEC/UFC belts at 135. aldo is slated to fight in ufc125. kenny florian said on mma live that he was approached to fight aldo but nothing's been confirmed as of yet.
This is like the 2nd Time REED has Heard of Aldo "Dismissing" or Showing RESISTANCE to Facing Florian... REED:kidcool:
As for the Merger Itself, it's a Great Move...Now, Instead of WEC PPV's, the WEC Talent can B ADDED to UFC PPV's.... REED:hammert:
Didn't know the UFC had a 135 pound division or belt. Good news. I was begging for this after Aldo crushed Faber. He is one of the biggest stars in the sport. And he can be even more popular if he gets some big name opponents in the UFC. Edgar is a naturally 145 pounder. What a great potential match. Again, MMA fans win.
Horrible news now my UFC cards will be polluted with midgets. Those little dudes fighting in the Octagon will make it seem like they're fighting on a football field. Thanks a lot Dana
145 is cool but anything below that I'm not fan of. Just too small. On that note I was hoping Aldo moves up to 155 and not this..
Honestly that is what I was clamoring for as well. His frame makes that possible. And moving to the UFC is cool, but the bigger fights for him are still at 155 with guys like Penn, Maynard, Edgar, Florian, etc.
Why Does the SIZE of the Fighter Even Matter...It's about QUALITY & PERFORMANCE, Not Size.... REED:mj:
True. But I want Aldo at 155 to face established, top ranked guys. As I said, a potential match with Penn is what I most want to see.
It's just so confusing in mma with all the weight classes and multiple champions. How can fans keep up?
yea, ben henderson is the lightweight champ. i've seen him a few times. he's fun to watch and has a very good guillotine choke. he's kinda like a modern version of carlos newton. i think he mixes up well against the top dogs at ufc, but that obviously remains to be seen.
Dana White already confirmed that Aldo was offered the fight and he TURNED IT DOWN. It was no rumor, the fight was offered and he said no.
I love it. I don't usually get into the 125 pound fights, but having a title fight on the card would definitely round out a nice PPV. As far as Henderson and Cerrone at 155, I completely disagree. I think both of them have very hard times with even Clay Guida.
Yeah but people were confirming it and he was dismissing it. And if you were agreeing with me with your post then...Yeah.
Cerrone does but Henderson doesn't. Henderson has been quietly destroying his opponents in the WEC for a reason.
Well this is a double edged sword for sure. It's no secret that the little guys in both boxing and MMA put forth the most effort and most entertaining fights for sure. Problem is, mainstream fans want see the HEAVIES throw down. With this merger, I see 2 problems: 1. the PPV frequency averages 13-14 per year. ADDING more wt classes and MORE fighters will result in MORE PPV's to purchase because no fighter wants to fight less than 2-3 times a year. This will hit US in the pocket accordingly. 2. The free fights on Versus on a Wed nite were often the highlight of my week. Abandoning that exposure for small wt fighters will make them irrelevant and unappealing on paper. Hence, if a UFC PPV has a main card fight with Top 10 135 and 145er's, nobody will care unless there is a title at stake. Even then, only passionate folks like us will want to watch. ....and that is a bummer I like it just the way it was
let me guess to the guy who doesnt like small fighters...you could probably kick all their asses too huh? now im no big fan of small guys either, but people who bash them are usually fat.
A prime BJ vs Aldo would be EPIC. I am afraid that the ship has set sail for BJ and seeing him fight Aldo would trigger a deep, dark depression from which I'd never recover. All of the top-tier world beaters from the first generation of MMA are on a steep decline. Kills me to say it but Aldo would make BJ look bad. Really bad. My heart coulnd't handle that:crying:
the WEC is a huge part of Vs programming. With Dana putting the UFC already on Vs, don't you guys think they are looking to put more UFC on Vs? Don't fool yourself that if this merger goes through, all of a sudden MMA on Vs just vanishes. Gold Glover brings up some good point about the PPV's. I am hoping that they bring on many more Fight Nights rather than just pushing more PPV's especially with the vacancy of WEC on VS.
