Throw Taylor/Fimo in the mythical matchups forum and they all lose to everybody. So they're worse than we thought

Both weak at the respective weights and underestimated the opposition. Lopez also had a very poor gameplan

The opposition was better than we believed it was . Taylor can fight. We've seen him much better than this. He looked leggy and off all night. Catterall had a plan and stuck to it.

Same with Kamboso. Came with a plan and took advantage of mistakes brought on by a lack of preparation albeit in Lopez case it was a lack of mental preparation.

    Bit of both.

Taylor is far more proven than Lopez though. He's actually beaten elite fighters his own size. So we know it's far less likely Taylor is some flash in the pan.

    Prograis is elite?

Smaller or not lomachenko is a better lightweight than prograis is a jr welter

    Prograis is definitely elite.

And four good wins at world level are better than one. Two if you include Commey.

You continue to discredit Teo's win over Loma. The bottom line is, Loma was the consensus P4P when Lopez beat him.

Regis, though I like him, was not even top 5 P4P.

Jose Ramirez is nothing more than a solid fighter.

Josh has never beaten an elite. Lopez has.

Don't be ridiculous. Of course Prograis is elite.

I don't see how I am currently, or have previously underrated Lopez's win over Lomachenko. All I'm saying is he hasn't beaten one his own size, which is inexplicably true.

Regardless, the classifications of those two doesn't really matter. The point is Taylor has done a lot more than Teo has and therefore is far less likely to be a flash in the pan, which is inevitably what Teo will turn out to be. He wouldn't win a rematch with Loma.

I would objectively say that no, Regis Prograis is not elite. But we might have different definitions of elite.

Elite to me is Crawford, Usyk, Inoue, Canelo, Spence.

Prograis is clearly a cut below that level.

I consider Taylor to be elite, and it's obvious Prograis is somewhere on that level.

To me, that's an elite fighter.

But either way, my point is that Lopez's lone impressive win could be a fluke, and Lopez could be a flash in the pan. Taylor hasn't fluked his way to undisputed champion.

He also obliterated Commey. So its not his lone quality win.

Josh went the distance with Baranchyk...

There's not much between em. We'll never find out now who the better man is, as Josh is moving up.

And if he does, Top Rank will now make plans for Lopez vs Ramirez late this year.

Even you don't think Commey is a good fighter, so yeah, it is one lone good win.

And Lopez went the distance with Nakatani, your point? Lopez is a puncher, too. He should be destroying guys 15lbs smaller than him.

Taylor acomplished more, and if we're honest, it's far more likely his fight with Loma was a fluke rather than a virtuoso performance.

Boxing fans put way too much on the performance of one night, be it a very good performance and especially if it is a very bad performance. But it is just like getting up and going to work. There are days when you just aren't feeling it and you go in and do whatever it takes just to get through the day and, at least, you know you get to come back and try again tomorrow. And there are days that you wish would never end because everything is working and you are really on top of what you do, and those days seem to last 5 minutes.
Same thing with a fighter. You try to read the signs in the gym and do everything you can to peak on fight night but it doesn't always work out for you. And the other guy is also a highly trained professional with heart and courage and conditioning and a will to win, trying his best. That is a huge difference in the mindset of modern and old time fighters. In the old days you have a bad day and you put it behind you because you are fighting Tuesday in Cleveland. Now, you have a bad night and know it, but then brood on it for the six months between fights.
The fans would get over it quicker, too, if Josh Taylor, for example, had another fight in 30 days.

It was 100% a bad night.

But Josh always had defensive flaws, and his eyes swell very easily.

Six months would be great if he came back that soon.

He been fighting once a year since prograis. Ring rust is real

    That's MODERN DAY Boxing Though...

Canelo Alvarez Fighting 4 Times from December 2020 to November 2021 was the Exception, NOT the Rule...Bad Performances/Losses are MAGNIFIED for Fighter's of Today...FAIR, No...But It IS What it IS and They Know It Going In...

My thing is Lopez has outgrown 135 and Taylor is struggling to stick around 40 because he has all the belts and no immediate, winnable big fight on the horizon at welterweight

If they had fought yesterday or anytime this year Lopez kos him

Lopez will be strong and have a better gas tank at 40 when he doesn't have to cut alot of muscle

Reminds me of when Hopkins lost to Taylor then went to LHW and upset a drained tarver

We need to see Fimo's comeback before we call anything.

We also need to forget Lopez-Taylor now.

Let's start speculating how Lopez-Ramirez goes, because I'm thinking that should Ramirez beat Pedraza, and should Fimo win his comeback, Arum will make Lopez-Ramirez in the fall.

Ainr this some shit. Couple months ago we were thinking that either Crawford-Taylor, or Taylor-Lopez would definitely happen; now it turns out, neither will happen.

    Viva boxing!

He sure as Hell would beat last night's Taylor. He would have stopped last night's Taylor.

    Zepeda is better than Jack.

So, who does Josh fight at 147?

I think he's best of fighting a nobody and seeing if weight making truly was the problem. If he's as sharp as he used to be without having to cut, then he should try and either rebound and go for a contender or give Catterall a rematch at 147.

He should rematch Catterall, ASAP. He straight up lost that fight. If he walks away from it trying to persuade everyone he won, it'll be a big asterix on his CV. If it has to take place at 147, then fine, but it has to take place.

Taylor looked awful in there last night. Dreadful. It probably was a lot to do with the weight, but it also definitely had something to do with Catterall. Taylor couldn't figure him out at all.

I thought he lost, but it wasn't an extremely clear win for Catterall or anything. He lost his momentum and coasted for the last four rounds and on my card, lost all of them.

I think Catterall's timing and negativity were awful for Taylor. There were parts where Taylor key his right hook go and he wobbled Catterall, either to the body or upstairs but they only happened once or twice. He should work on drawing Catterall's back hand and then countering with the hook in a rematch. Somebody like Crawford would've figured that out after literally just landing one or two of those.

Nahhhh Caterall ain’t getting no rematch. I’d bet my last dollar. No money in it for Taylor. The money is at 147 lbs. And Taylor’s team isn’t gonna risk a rematch against someone they were expected to blow out.

Problem is Taylor is going to be small at that weight and he isn’t a defensive genius. I don’t see great options for him against the top guys there.

I was guilty of overrating Fimo.

Josh was slept on coming up the ranks, but became overrated post-Regis.

I thought Josh might be good enough to give Crawford a tough fight for 5-6 rounds.

Truth is, it would probably be a case of Bud beating up Josh pretty much whenever he decides to go into gear 2. If he chose to go into gear 2 early, then he probably stops Taylor inside of 6.

If they were in mythical matchups, how would they fare against the likes of:

    Miguel Cotto
    Meldrick Taylor
    Andy Ganigan
    Arturo Gatti
    Vinny Pazienza
    Uncle Roger
    Steven De Jesus
    Paul Spadafora
