The "Head Scratching" Part for REED is Where to RANK DeLa, Historically...He DIDN'T Stay @ 130,135 or 140 Loooooooooong Enough to CEMENT a Legacy @ Any of those Weights... & his "Big" Fights @ 147 & 154 were MOSTLY Controversial or Outright LOSSES....The Quartey, Tito, Sweet Pea, Sugar Shane (RE) & Sperm Fights were Debateable EITHER WAY & the 1st Shane Fight, Bernard & Manny Pac were CLEAR Losses... It's Near IMPOSSIBLE to Figure Out a FAIR Historical Ranking for DeLa...T REED:kidcool:
The MOST Head Scratching Part of this is how there's Been Practically NO Backlash WHATSOEVER from it.... REED:hammert:
no backlash? everyone was ripping Oscar for this even people that don't follow boxing were talking about this everyday when it made news. Eventually since they settled with that girl it all went away. Like it always does when you pay off anybody.
Dude, this was Potentially a CAREER ENDING Revelation, but it DIDN'T Affect DeLa's Earning Power N the SLIGHTEST...The Networks & Endorsements STAYED w/him, Shit, even his WIFE Stayed w/Him.... The "Backlash" Could've Been MUCH Worse... REED:hammert:
I was a De La Hoya fan until he decided to take up track during the last four rounds of the Tito fight. It was very strange because of how easy he was winning the fight. He didn't have to change his strategy at all.
FBI raid the office of De La Hoya's promoter, Top Rank, Inc. Could the De La Hoya-Mosley fight have been fixed? January 8, 2004 -- The office of Top Rank Inc., which has a stable of great boxers including Oscar De La Hoya was raided on Tuesday for evidence of tampering or fixing pro fights. The following is a statement released by Lee Samuels, Director of Public Relations for Top Rank, Inc: "The Federal Bureau of Investigations visited the Top Rank offices on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 and pursuant to a sealed search warrant, requested the production of specific materials. Top Rank cooperated in producing all requested information. Neither the basis nor purpose for the FBI request is known. We are fully cooperating with any requests made of us by the FBI and its agents in order to facilitate their job." One fight under investigation is the Oscar De La Hoya-Shane Mosley fight on September 13, 2003. In that fight, Mosley won a highly controversial victory (unanimous decision) against De La Hoya to win the WBA Jr. middleweight title. A furious De La Hoya cried foul and began an investigation into the three judges' scorecards, which he later cancelled. A law enforcement source close to the probe would not elaborate on the findings, saying only, "We have information that the De La Hoya fight was fixed."
strange indeed...do you think this head scratching move proves that the fight was a fix? i think so it also justifies why he would trade with Mosley and lose to him as well (another fix)
I also would like to know exactly WHY Barrera went to Don King. Why would he terminate his affiliation with a rising promotional company to go with Don King?
because he was upset with how things transpired surrounding the marquez fight. a bout he was pushed into taking by goldenboy and not pleased with the result
There was for the first week or so when the pictures were made public. But then ultimately, people just move on as always. The verdict was, the photos were photoshopped, DLH made a public statement saying so, and the woman said she had the photos published for money and that was that.
The strangest thing about DLH's career is how most every fight he ever had resulted in controversy and talks of match-fixing.::
