I read this New York Times article from 1991 where people were blaming 6 ounce gloves for a fighter being put in a coma. These were junior bantamweights. Heavyweights wear 10 or 12 ounce gloves right? So why shouldn't flyweights/bantamweights wear 6 ounce gloves? They're half the size. You would think the glove weight should be proportional to the body weight.

It wouldn't matter if they had no gloves at all, nothing happens in midget bouts anyway. It is better to have the wear regular gloves, at least some normal fighter can use the same pair

they used to wear 6 oz gloves. some people blamed the quiroga/kid akeem tradgedy on 6 oz. gloves. now they use 8 oz gloves, the same as junior light-weights.

    i believe it's 130 and below = 8 oz
    135 and up = 10 oz

8 oz used to go up to 154 and then 147, i think, but recent bullshit has lowered it to 130 lbers...

which leads to [edit] Double L bitching about it a lot around here (though not so much lately)...but since I agree...I don't really care

to my knowledge, Vegas is still the only place where 10oz gloves are used for 135-147. Everywhere else, 8 oz are still used from 147 and down.

I was watching that fight last week. Judging by the action, you would've thought that Quiroga was the one more likely to nearly die than Anifowoshe.

Judging by his height and frame, Akeem may have been dehydrated by making weight...5'8, 5'9 guys generally don't fight at 115.

Not a chance. They were watchable which is the highest compliment a tiny tot fight can get. If anything, it proves my point these disgusting midgets should be banned. Kid AKEEM nearly died and then he got depressed and died. Quiroga was never the same and quickly had to retire and he got whacked in a knife fight. These guys were too frail and weak and that is why they were injured permanently in this fight.

When I'm watching these guys, they look bigger on tv so I try not to think about how little they really are.
