What M-1 meant by the UFC's"very generous offer".... By: Carmichael Dave CBS Radio MMA Host Twitter.com/Carmichaeldave So we all know the deal with M-1 and what they are saying about co-promotion. I'm not here to say who's right and wrong in this deal, but I can tell you some of the specifics that were offered to Fedor..... - The UFC offered Fedor a 6 fight, 30 million dollar contract. That's 5 mil a fight - The UFC offered Fedor an immediate title shot - Lesnar/Fedor would be the biggest PPV in MMA history (we assume), and the UFC offered M-1 Global a cut of the PPV on top of Fedor's purse. - Fedor was free to wear as many M-1 logoed items as he wished. - The UFC also relented on allowing Fedor to compete in combat sambo. .......................... So let's sum up: 5 million a fight, immediate title shot, free to compete in sambo, free to promote M-1 Global..... This is a dream contract. Fedor should sign now!
I agree Hanz, this is just about everything Fedor demanded last time and the UFC said no. The UFC truly compromised, if Fedor doesn't sign, its because he just doesn't want to fight for the UFC. I am blown away Dana would offer this. Come on Fedor, TAKE IT!!!!artie:
I'm sure it's a done deal. Fedor won't refuse 5 million a fight + an instant title fight and being free to compete in Sambo. If he's his own man at the negotiation table, he'll sign. There is no other company out there for him.
I have a hard time believing that's a legit offer. The immediate title shot, that's already been made public. M-1 Logo's I can see. Even the Sambo I can see as long as it doesn't cut into Fedor's UFC schedule. But there's no way in hell the UFC is guaranteeing $5 Million a fight for Fedor, who is still an unknown to the casual UFC fan. And there's even less of a chance they would throw PPV revenue on top of that to M-1. I know there's a big press conference tomorrow, so maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't think this is legit. TFK
i agree....to guarantee 5 mil for 6 fights seems too much....you never know what might happen....in 6 fights time, Fedor could have lost a couple?......MMA fans know who he is, but there will be a lot of pressure for him to back up the hype on his first appearance....if he doesn't have that immediate impact, then i have a hard time seeing the UFC continually giving him that sort of money. If an offer like that does exist, then it is dependable on a series of things happening....eg. Fedor winning, making so many ppv numbers etc...
We'll know in due time. I do recall 2 years ago the UFC making a 2 million per fight offer to Fedor. Randy Couture took exception to it and quit the UFC.::
No other Org will be able to even come close to that offer. If he doesn't take this, he's the biggest idiot on the planet.
Agreed. I'm the biggest Fedor lover on the planet and even i will have to give up on The Last Emperor if he decides these stipulations are unfair. He should be wanting to have Dana White's children with this kind of contract he's been offered. No other mma fighter could ever dream of a contract like this.
When are they gonna start jacking up UFC ppvs to $55 in order to compensate Fedor's groundbreaking salary?
I'll give the UFC mad props if that contract is REAL And I agree with everyone.Fedor would be stupid as hell to turn down that deal. This deal is beyond ground breaking
I think Fedor is just waiting on the guarantee that he can be a coach opposite Kimbo Slice on an upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. TFK
M-1 is denying the 30m offer, saying it wasn't even half that and that the offer is not even the best one they have received. This all sucks, I think it's really in the best interest of MMA for Fedor to sign. You can't deny the UFC is the best org in the world right now, and although they don't have all of the best HW's they do have most of the best that Fedor hasn't fought. What's left for Fedor outside the UFC? Overeem? A guy who was getting KO'd as a LHW? Who even gives him a shot against Fedor? Not me! That's where it ends. He's got Overeem and Barnett. I guess he'll end up fighting a juiced up Barnett in Japan.
just read this over at Sherdog Thursday, July 30, 2009 by Loretta Hunt (lhunt@sherdog.com) M-1 Global is denying a report that Fedor Emelianenko turned down a six-fight $30-million deal this week to join the UFC’s heavyweight ranks. CBS Radio host Carmichael Dave reported Wednesday that Emelianenko had turned down an agreement that would have paid him $5 million per fight. However, Joost Raimond, CEO for M-1 Global, called the report “completely ludicrous†and said negotiations never even reached the point where the number of fights contracted for Emelianenko was decided. “I can say that the guaranteed -- and the word ‘guaranteed’ is of great importance here -- the guaranteed offer made by the UFC is less than what Fedor made before,†Raimond said. “The five-million (per fight) is way, way, way out of range. Half of that is even way out of range of what they offered.†Raimond was not present at the meeting that took place between UFC and M-1 management in Los Angeles earlier this week, but he said he was debriefed shortly afterward. M-1 and UFC officials, including president Dana White, reconvened the next day via teleconference call, where M-1 presented a counteroffer that included co-promotion. No written contact was ever presented. M-1 President Vadim Finkelstein and Emelianenko were en route to Russia Thursday and could not be reached for comment. UFC officials told Sherdog.com that White is also traveling and their earliest comment would come Friday during a media conference call. Raimond confirmed that M-1 Global had been presented with the possibility to receive a cut of pay-per-view profits in addition to Emelianenko’s guaranteed pay, but he said no other profit-sharing incentives were presented. “And there were a number of provisions attached to that offer that made it very much less interesting,†Raimond said. Many of those provisions involved the branding of M-1 within the UFC organization, according to Raimond. “We made it clear that Fedor, now and forever is part, even part owner, of M-1 and those two cannot be separated,†Raimond said. “If the rest of M-1 is excluded from any kind of deal, it makes the deal difficult.†Raimond said a title shot against heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar –- in Emelianenko’s first fight or otherwise -- was not specified during the talks. (UFC President Dana White has publicly stated the Russian would challenge for the title in his first bout with the promotion, though.) Raimond also confirmed that the UFC conceded to allow Emelianenko to continue to compete in sambo, of which he is a national champion and spokesman, and noted during the meeting that the fighter was free to wear M-1 clothing. “That’s like telling someone they’re allowed to eat,†said Raimond, suggesting it wasn’t a significant concession. Raimond noted that the M-1 team was disheartened to learn that “unsubstantiated rumors†had been disseminated, and that Internet readers were willing to believe them at face value. “Sometimes the fans don’t realize that there is a business to run and all these statements, ‘These M-1 idiots, why don’t they just give Fedor to the UFC because they’ve offered him the best money?’ This is a completely unsubstantiated rumor that the UFC has offered the best money for Fedor ever. This is just not the case.†Raimond emphasized that negotiations with the UFC had been fruitful, even though the fundamental disagreement over co-promotion between the two organizations remains. “We had a very professional, productive and respectful meeting with the UFC,†Raimond said. “I think both parties walked away (knowing) even though a deal wasn’t made, that a very decent meeting was had.â€
dont get your hopes up. The announcement is expected to be about a TV deal with ESPN UK....if you're lucky they might officially reveal that Tito Ortiz and Vitor Belfort are making a return to the UFC.
Who even gives a f*ck about ESPN UK, Tito or Belfort? :: That's not an announcement worth anticipating.
yeah, well the press conference has been planned all week....i don't think they would have be presumptious enough to expect that the Fedor negotiations would have reached a successful conclusion by now. If a deal is done, then it is an opportunity to announce it, but that is not the original intention of this press conference.
Fedor is under contract with M-1 Global for 3 fights. And from what I've read, he's also a co-owner. Which is why M-1 wanted a co-promotion with the UFC. M-1 can't let Fedor go or they'll die. And I guess Fedor doesn't want to lose co-ownership of M-1.:dunno: Hard to make sense of all this really. Fedor may or may not have received the offer from the UFC which is being reported. The UFC has never ever paid any fighter even $1 million flat. And yet they're now going to pay Fedor $5 million per fight? It doesn't make sense if you look at the way the UFC's pay structure is and has been all these years. They don't have $5 million per fight to pay Fedor unless they jack up PPV prices and ticket sales and all that other sh*t. They paid their biggest stars Lesnar, Couture, Ortiz, and Liddell $400-500K. Any additional pay was through bonuses, ppv sales and gate. Doesn't add up that they'll pay Fedor $5 million flat per fight + ppv bonuses, etc.
Agree with everything Hanz, nothing added up with the so called offer. I must admit, I got excited, but something told me it wasn't legit. The part I really couldn't believe was the UFC agreeing to co-promote with M-1. As an organization, it makes zero sense for the UFC. They built themselves. Why give another fledling org some of that? I wouldn't.:nono:
