The rematch is supposed to be above 160? What kind of stupid shit is that? Neither one of these guys seems have trouble making 160.
168... Pavlik had to Agree to it just to Get his Title Shot...REED Doesn't Know how Loooooooooong Taylor has to Enforce it, but REED Honestly DOESN'T Expect him to... REED
to taylor's credit, if it were up to him, there's no doubt he'd take the rematch. but you just know manny/dibella won't let him. he'd lose a rematch even worse. he had virtually his only chance to win in the second round and he couldn't do it. of course, there's always a chance he could "steal" a decision simply by fighting to survive, but having lost, he might not have the lustre needed anymore. doesn't he have all kinds of endorsements? i wonder if that doesn't have something to do with all of the gifts he gets.
first thing Taylor should do is save himself some money and get rid of Manny Steward..the guy hasn't help him one bit...nothing has change since Manny came into the picture.... I don't remember teh Joppy fight..but did Taylor do alot of backing.?
He needs to bring back that trainer that used to talk to him like he was 12 years old. That guy kept things simple, which is what Taylor needs. Manny asks him to do a bunch of stuff that he's just not capable of doing.
Pat Burns... and that's not happening so long as Ozell Nelson remains in Taylor's corner. Which is to say, it's not happening at all. As for the rematch, I'd be surprised if it happens, unless Taylor's suddenly in need of cash.
Taylor didn't do a lot of anything in the Joppy fight. He came strong early, but it got to the point where Joppy was more determined to last twelve than to win the fight, or even a round (I think I gave him the 10th). But it was one of the first fights which showed chinks in Taylor's armor. The only positive thing Joppy had to offer that night was a jab, and Jermain seemed to completely stop punching anytime he got caught with one. If Joppy was more focused on fighting, who knows what would've been the case that night. Instead, he dicked around, looking to either go 12 or get DQ'd (basically, anything other than win or get knocked out trying), and the fight became a anti-climactic stinker.
Taylor would have a better shot in a rematch than he would against the loser of Calzaghe-Kessler, IMO. Arum's got an interesting interivew on B-talk about the rematch clause..."it was Mr. Machiavelli, the unlicensed advisor...A.H." ::
