What's with this: "Hatton is the greatest British Fighter ever" nonsense?

The British Media dub Ricky Hatton as the greatest British fighter ever on account of his wins over Kostya Tszyu and Castillo.

I guess they never heard of a dude called Lennox Lewis?:dunno: You know the same Lewis who's beaten:

Tyson, Holyfield, Klitschko, Grant, tua, Morrison, Ruddock, Rahman, McCall, Briggs, Biggs, Botha, Golota...should I continue?

    Oh yes...of course...Lennox Lewis isn't indigenous English.

    How could I forget?

    That's exactly why. (bolded above)

Nice attempt at baiting, but you already gave the answer.

Hatton, as much I like the lad, isn't even the best CURRENT British fighter (Calzaghe).

And he sure isn't ahead of Lennox... :warning:

    hmmm....

So that's a good reason?

He was BORN in England. The fact that he's not of Anglo-Saxon origin shouldn't play into this. :nono:

He moved out when he was only 12. He didn't exactly have a deep connection there. He learned to fight in Canada, he won us the Gold medal. His trainer was canadian Arnie Bohem.

He went back there as a professional because of money. There was no money here in Canada for him. Boxing just isn't big here. Boxing is much bigger in England. It was an intelligent move for him to bring his base to England. Why do you think he switches accents when he's there and then when he comes here?
Even Lennox never gave Michael Landsberg a straight answer on Off the Record when Landsberg asked him 4 times "Where are you from". Lennox says "I represent the world." :dunno:
So Lennox obviously didn't choose England as his home either, Sly.

You have a point there...but that doesn't change the FACT that he's British by birth and fought as a Brit (Union Jack and everything). As such there's no good reason to dub Ricky Hatton as greater than him.

Cut all of this Lennox Lewis shit...

Calzaghe is better anyway. End of debate (conveniently ignores that Joe is half Italian)

A fighter who doesn't embrace his country will not be embraced by his country. Lennox has chosen not to call home to any one particular country. He's confused all of us. That's why his fanbase is small. If he had just said "I am British, I represent Britain!" He might have seen more support. :dunno:
If he had won the gold medal for England, this man would be a king over there. But unfortunately, Lennox is neither here nor there. Fans cannot support such an athlete which is a shame.

:shit: I couldn't imagine Lennox befriending you. You talk too much and Lennox is a quiet guy. He surely must've told you to shut up a few times you whippersnapper!

You're not wrong...but whether he's embraced one country or not or has a huge fan base or not...the FACT remains that he was born in Britain, is a British citizen and fought representing that country.

That is teh bottomline and it's not subject to negotiation!:warning:

I'd also take Benn, Eubank, Honeyghan and Conteh. On top of Lewis and Joe. So that's arguably six better in the last 30 years...? :dunno:

was getting ready to say the same. (better than Hatton, that is, wouldn't argue in favor of his having a greater career than Lennox)

Nah...I could rate Hatton over Eubank, Benn and Conteh. Honeyghan's win over Curry was equivalent to Hatton's win over Tszyu IMO...but Honeyghan lost a few also.

I can accept Hatton over those characters..but certainly not over Lewis and arguably not over Calzaghe.

 Hey, I was pissed off as much as any other fan that Lewis never got the recognition he deserved. But it's not that hard to figure out in hindsight. The Canucks and the Brits will gladly support their athletes. Just as long as the athlete will give us a damn clue as to which country he represents truly. Lennox was all over the place. He talks like a British-Canadian-Jamaican.

Why would you rate Hatton over the likes of Benn and Eubank? Where do you rate Hamed?

Hamed, Watson, Minter, Herol Graham, Haye, McGuighan...that's the level; just below those elite fighers I listed (again, am now v drunk and desperately need sleep, so no arguing too strenuously)

Ignoring knowledge and indulging in echolocation.
Calzaghe is capabley the best fighter out of Great Britain, alongside Medusa, who's the greatest heavyweight of all time whom would have beaten every American pro-fighter whoever lived :crafty: I love saying that, and it's true.

    Now I was only a nipper, but wasn't Honeyghan a 6-1 underdog against a top 3 P4Per?

If so, that is NO Hatton v Kostya...
