Floyd isn't listed in the P4P ranking according to Ring Magazine and ESPN. I believe this is correct since he's been inactive for well over a year. If he beats Ortiz, where does that land him in the rankings?

The top five guys are as follows:

    Manny
    Sergio Martinez
    Donaire
    Juan Manuel Marquez
    Wlad Kltischko

Based on the sole win where does Floyd rank?

Take into consideration, Tim Bradley, Giovani Segura, Andre Ward and Bernard Hopkins are all active and have had significant signature wins within the past 18 months...in some cases moreso than what a victory over Ortiz means.

    How would you rank Floyd?

Side note: Sly, don't bother answering...we know your position. if Floyd came back ten years from now you'd have him ranked #1 until he showed in the ring again.

the point of the thread is to assess the value assigned to beating Ortiz in comparison to the body of work some of the other guys have done dating back to when Floyd last fought and during his absence.

I want to get the an idea of what the board thinks. It's not about manny.

ironically...it could be a while before we see donaire in the ring based on the issues he has with top rank.

Depends on how he beats Ortiz.

If he beats him easily, looking like a killer in the process...he goes STRAIGHT to number 2.

If he barely scraps past him, he stays out of the rankings.

Leonard hadn't fought in three years and came back and beat Hagler. Should he not have been ranked P4P when the rest of teh fighters were fighting continuously for those last three years?

    Depends on HOW Floyd Wins...

If he Comes Back & Wins in DOMINANT Fashion (Late Stoppage or 12 Round SCHOOLING), REED Would Reassert Floyd No Lower than 3rd, Behind Pac & Martinez...If Floyd Shows SLIPPAGE, yet Still Wins Rather Convincingly, he'd Jump Back in Around 5...

5 @ the Lowest, 2 or 3 @ the Highest, as Looooooooong as Floyd WINS Decisively...

No. It was a great achievement, but it didn't erase what other fighters had done during the time he was away.

Three years is twice as long as Floyd's been away; however, by the time he gets to Ortiz it will be his third fight in four years.

The Sport of Boxing RIGHTFULLY PUNISHES Floyd by REMOVING him from Lb for Lb Lists, after he's Been Inactive a Certain Length of Time...But Upon Returning to the Sport, it's Only FAIR that Floyd Reclaims his Spot (or Something SOMEWHAT Close to It), if he Looks FLOYD LIKE in that Return Bout...

Ortiz is a VERY Credible Opponent...If Floyd Looks FLOYD LIKE in that Bout, he's No Worse than 2 or 3, Lb for Lb...

He should take what ever spot Ortiz has on the p4p list. Where is he ranked?

Ortiz been beat twice, been stopped before too, has two draws on his record. Why would Floyd fight this guy? Floyd mayweather ain't doing anything that hasn't been done before. You don't know boxing.

Floyd was probably going to fight Berto but now has to settle for Ortiz.

I think Donaire is the best fighter in the sport, Floyd would have to do something pretty special against Ortiz to make me reconsider that.

Ortiz isn't in anyones p4p list, so why should Floyd move into the top 10 for beating him? There are many active fightrs coming off more impressive wins than Ortiz.

Assbrained logic. In that case, Tarver became #1 after he KO'd RJJ. Donaire and Pacquiao need to fight each other for the #1 spot.. etc etc

Irrelevant. Ortiz just beat Berto and is counted among the best Welterweights in the world. If Floyd beats him convincingly, looking good in the process we ARE COMPELLED to assume that Floyd is still at his best and therefore no worst that #3 P4P..(I'd have him at 2)

Which of Pac's last few opponents were high in the P4P rankings, btw?

Quite possibly the most embarrassingly incompetant logic ever seen on this young forum.

i dont know the answer to that. a better question would be, where would he be ranked among other welterweights. p4p is bs. one guy is top 10 and the next day he's nowhere to be found based on a single loss. i find nfl's power ranking system more logical than p4p.

    It's an interesting question.

Manny isn't doing himself any facors by taking on Marquez at a weight he's proven to be ineffective at preceded by fighting Mosley who looked all but washed up in his two previous bouts.

Floyd takes on a young champion in his first title defense coming off a inconsistent performance a weight class below.

It's hard to judge who gets the title of "best" welterweight. Seeing that Floyd was P4P best when he left and Manny currently is I'm not sure how meaningful it is to reduce the scope to welterwight.

Unless you're saying Manny's the #1 welter and P4P fighter and Floyd's the #2 welter yet 3 or 4 on the P4P lists.

Honestly if Floyd looks good and wins, he is top 4 in the world again, and no higher than #2. It's an excellent win. I would rank him #2 personally.

Also Joony why the disdain for P4P rankings? I don't if anything can be less convoluted, who is the best fighter in the world? that's it. Wladimir Klitschko destroys Pacquiao if they fight tomorrow, the P4P concept just levels the field and states that Pacquiao is a better fighter than Wladimir despite the fact that Wlad KO's him if they had to fight for that ranking.

I was just messing around, but in any case nothing I can say would be more ridiculous that some of the shit you have been posting lately. I'm sorry brother Sly, but you wear the retarded logic crown here.

You realize that the NFL's power ranking system literally has no purpose or meaning whatsoever right?

Offical scorecards are nothing but the opinions of three people.
