So if you're on the same page as me, let's all agree that Foreman, Tyson, and Lewis are the three best punchers in heavyweight history. Which of the following would a prime Bowe have the best chance against?

If we're talking about the 73-74 Foreman, the 86-88 Tyson, and the 97-00 Lewis.

Lewis because of his questionable CHIN...

Bowe has no shot against FOreman 73-74....and only marginal chance against 86-88 Tyson...in the later rounds.

I agree. I'd pick all three to beat Bowe, but Bowe's best chance is against Lewis because of his chin.

Another thing I was thinking about. I know we always consider the Bowe of the first Holy fight to THE best version of Bowe. But you could make an argument that the best version of Bowe was against Gonzalez.

Maybe, but isn't it a bit convenient to say the best "versions" of Bowe were in fights he won?

I'd say his best chance is against Foreman. Lewis' chin isn't as bad as the myth has it, whereas young Foreman had the clearest weakness (stamina) and he relied most on one strategy, which was to overpower his opponents, plus Foreman could be hurt.

Foreman would be the favorite, but Bowe could be able to hurt him and stay in the battle with his better technique for eight rounds, after which Foreman would be gassed. I can't see Bowe surviving Tyson's early outslaught nor being able to box with Lewis

I would agree that his best chance is with Foreman.

I think they all beat Bowe. He probably has the best chance against Foreman.

I agree. I think they all stop Bowe within 6. Was just asking who's Bowe have the best outside shot against.

I think against Foreman, if he can get out of the early rounds.

Lennox is too smart for him. Young Mike was too fast and powerful. And I would pick Foreman against him, but the styles would make it entertaining.

Frazier vs Bowe now would be a CLASSIC.

Frazier/Bowe is a guaranteed classic bout, as is Frazier/Holyfield

I would give Bowe a better chance at beating Liston than at beating Lewis, Tyson, Foreman.

How does Vitali do against them?

Washed up/fat Lewis stopped Vitali. So obviously prime/in-shape Lewis would stop him.

Prime versions of Tyson and Foreman both stop Vitali.

And bringing Bowe into the discussion, the 92 Bowe stops Vitali as well.

Objectively speaking, out of all those guys I think his best chance is against a prime Foreman.

I think prime Tyson and prime Bowe would be entirely all wrong for Vitali, for different reasons.

Please....Bowe vs Frazier would look like Bowe vs Bert Cooper, but I digress......

I agree with the consensus that Bowe's best shot would be against Foreman but that he loses to all three.

I pick Foreman for two reasons:

    1. His stamina was suspect and relied on getting to his opponents early.
    2. His opponents were usually smaller than him. Bowe is not.

    Disagree.

Vitali would have stopped Bowe. Lewis only stopped Vatli because of a cut. A cut can happen to anyone. Vitali would take Bowe's punches but Bowe wouldn't handle Vitali's for too long. People forget that Golota was fucking Bowe up twice (yeah yeah...bowe was washed up blah blah)..and a virus ridden Holyfield knocked Bowe down HARD and only failed to stop him because he was sick that night. I will also forever maintain that had fanman not fucked up that second fight...Evander would have stopped him then also.

    Getthefuckouttahere!

You along with everyone else has been saying that Frazier beats Marciano based primarily on the logic of size difference. Well, the size difference between Bowe and Frazier is SIGNIFICANTLY greater than than of Frazier Marciano. Bowe had to sweat down to be even 235lbs...he was a natural 250lbs monster. Frazier was 205lbs. not to mention the height and reach advantage too. Frazier comes in low...Bowe's best punches are his uppercuts...atg jab as well. Bowe absolutely fucks Frazier up. Fucks him up Fucks him up Fucks him up Fucks him up Fucks him up Fucks him up!!!!!!!!

Sly has the strange habit of reducing the two guys (Frazier and Norton) who gave his second favorite fighter (Ali) his hardest fights into chinless club fighter midgets who might be able to beat Joe Hipp. It is pointless discussing either fighter with him

cdogg, I was thinking the exact same thing - that it doesn't really say much for Ali that guys who beat him are borderline scrubs.

I didn't think of the contrast with Floyd, but you're right, it's the exact opposite there

I tend to think Frazier is better than Bert Cooper. Higher class fighter. I think it's a competitive war that comes down to the late rounds.

Can't see either guy having an easy time with the other.
