I am curious who you guys think are the best trainers currently? I always felt that Buddy McGirt was a bit overrated even tho he had that great run including Milk Dud's upset win over Jones. Freddie Roach? The self proclaimed best Floyd Mayweather Sr.?

Whatever happened to Kenny Adams, i always felt he was an excellent trainer. Manny Steward is a different kind of trainer - doesn't bring guys up from sccratch anymore just tweaks and makes adjustments to fighters who have already gotten going.

i have been out of the loop a little bit recently with boxing - how would you rate the current crop of trainers we have?

Nacho Barristain, Freddy Roach and Floyd Sr are the best around today IMO.

john david jackson is a quality trainer.

forget mayweather sr. he is solid conditioning-wise but brings nothing to the table strategically.

Honestly, I don't know how any of us are really qualified to comment on trainers, as just that; trainers. What we get to see though, we're able to make best case judgements based upon their work as cornermen and the condition of their fighters. In this regard, I see no reason not to think a (now unpopular because he's popular) guy like Roach isn't among the very best around.

I also think alot of JDD. His advice always seems top notch. He always struck me as a smart dude as a fighter. That should translate well, because he doesn't have any serious ego problems, like a lot of other former pro's.

He has trained his son. Guzman, Dawson, De la Hoya, Hanshaw Forbes. Most of his guys have good game plans and usually win their fights.

I don't think the style he implemented with guys like De La Hoya and Bojado actually improved them.

He's no longer in the corner of Dawson and Hanshaw as far as I know.

El Cepillo leaving him may have been one of the best things to happen to Diego Corrales.

Casmayor did bring him back befoer the Santa Cruz fight.

Jnr Witter's trainer is the best and if had was training Hatton, Ricky would have KOed Money May.
