OK - This is not p4p or KO percentage. Not relative to each weight but , just straight up ..

In other words if you got punched in the face by either guy , who do you think would hurt you more -
Tito at 147 or Sugar Ray Robinson at 160 ?

Robinson, easily. When he was 36, he knocked out Gene Fullmer with what's often called the greatest left hook in the history of the sport. I mean, that's one of the most famous knockouts of all time. And Fullmer was one of the toughest fighters of the era, no William Joppy.

Comebacking Robinson at 160 vs 147 pound Trinidad???... Definitely Robinson. Bigger man, faster hands, and definitely a harder punch.

At 147, its closer. But Robinson's hand speed is what really made his power that much more devastating.

Thank You Puerto Rock. No-one is taking away from Tito's power. We all know he could bang with the best but , common sense is just common sense .. Something Alabama man is lacking on this subject.

if we're talking at the same weight, then its trinidad.

Trinidad has punishing power, robinson is a punishing puncher.

Robinson is fast and places punches well. Trinidad isn't as fast but has heavier hands and a harder shot.

How can you watch the Fullmer rematch and not think that Robinson had punishing power? When did Trinidad knock out ANYONE that tough? The toughest and cageyest fighters usually took Trinidad the distance. That wasn't the case of Robinson.

Jaws, you really don't deserve to post in this section, because it's pretty obvious that you don't know shit.

At 147, I think Robinson was still a harder puncher. He could take guys out with 1 punch. Trinidad's power was more concussive than anything else. He didn't take you out with one punch usually, but he could hurt you badly with just one punch and thus turn the momentum of the fight.

The combination of hand speed and power is very tough to combat because even the hardest of chins can go when the fighter can't see the punches coming.

First of all you're basing SRR off of 1 fucking KO, and as great as it may have been you're not providing a good argument that that was the norm for SRR. Secondly Tito rarely hit guys and not have some kind of an effect on them dispite your lies/suspect knowledge.

No. I was simply assuming that a few of you might have actually watched boxing. I was wrong. Robinson was pound-for-pound the greatest offensive fighter ever, or perhaps second to Joe Louis. Trinidad? He was a minor titlist who never pulled off a kayo against a major opponent. Ray Robinson stopped Jake LaMotta. Jake LaMotta! And there are a ton of other names on his resume that I would discuss on a more intermediate forum, but I'm afraid that they'd fly over your heads.

The thing is, any power shot from trinidad that lands is a fight changer.

He wasn't very good, but his power changed fights. Robinson beat up on people usually by landing 100's of shots. The Fullmer fight is almost a fluke punch really. Robinson had good power, with great skill and handspeed.

    Trinidad had great power.

Earnie Shavers the greatest offensive fighter ever? That's the dumbest thing you've said today. He faded after four rounds. He didn't throw combinations well. He got winded easily. He wasn't a great finisher. The most power ever, perhaps, but there's more to boxing than that.
He landed a number of power shots against Winky Wright, and couldn't change the fight. He landed plenty of power shots against Hopkins and De la Hoya. His power only changed fights when he was up against the Oba Carrs and Yory Boys Campas of the world.

And you think that Fullmer was a fluke? Shit, you said something even dumber. Robinson showed his one-punch power against Mims, Basora, Belliose, Doyle, Bell, Lavigne and Curcio, to name a few. Robinson had twice as many knockouts as Trinidad had fights.

Also, I'm not alone in this opinion, and only a few moronic fanboys like yourself think that Trinidad hit harder than Robinson. Here's how Ring magazine ranked the 100 greatest punchers of all time in 2003:
    1. Joe Louis
    2. Sam Langford
    3. Jimmy Wilde
    4. Archie Moore

LMAO at you being able to teach people how to take standardized tests. They test inference and reasoning ability for the most part. so, smartass here's some reason for you

So the inference here is that because of Trinidad's all-time status and resume he doesn't deserve to be considered in comparison to Sugar Ray Robinson.

As A reply I referenced Earnie Shavers, a man widely thought of to be the "hardest" puncher in history, and at the very least top 3 with Foreman and Tyson.

This thread was titled who hits "harder," not whose harlem dick we love most

But we are not judging the same weight. Trinidad at 147 Vs Robinson at 160

I'm not really even following the other thread....but shouldn't this be a POUND-FOR-POUND comparison - Trinidad at 147 vs. Robinson at 160?

That seems to be the real issue.

And the question is "who punches HARDER" - not who was the more effective boxer or had more offensive capability.

It's a very hard question to gauge, actually...with ANY boxer comparison.

    Peace.

The reason why its not p4p or 147 Vs 147 is because Alabama stated that the 147 Welter version of Trinidad hit harder then the 160 Middle weight version of Sugar Ray Robinson because Ray was in his mid 30's ... :jester:

This is the debate and this is why its not a p4p or Welter Vs Welter comparison...

Again another lie. I never said Trinidad "hit harder", I said SRR wasn't the same fighter at 40 that he was at 25 and then CleanYourCawk made the imaginary connection that I said one had more power than the other.

Go ahead and browse the thread you won't find me saying any of the above.

But you will find this gem.
