Since Mayorga and Vargas each were KO'd by the Trinidad, DLH and Mosley (twice in 'Nando's case)...who has the better legacy?

Mayorga KO'd Soft Heads, Forrest and beat Forrest in the rematch or Vargas whose best wins are over Yory Boy, Raul Marquez and Ike Quartey.

Does Mayorga get the nod because he's got scoreboard over 'Nando?

I would say yes, but it's very close and i'm not so sure about a prime vs. prime matchup.

People who say Vargas boxes his ears off are the same stupid cunts who said Mosley would box Mayos ears off and haven't come to their minds, yet.

No!!! by no means. Nando was past it by the time Mayorga beat him.

I never cared for Nando and I happen to be very fond of Mayorga.... I even got fooled and thought he might be pretty good for a while.:dunno: But Nando was a lot better.

The Winky victory probably tips it to Vargas.....his displays in his biggest fights, vs DLH and Tito were unquestionably better than Mayorga's too

.....if the question was, 'who has made the most of what talent they had?'....then that would be Mayorga, it is a shame - for all the talent Vargas showed early on - that this is even a topic of debate

Prime for Prime I would say Vargas. He gave a prime Tito all he can handle. Plus like mentioned before Vargas has solid wins against Yori Boy Campus, Wright, IKE.

Vargas w/o any question at all. Prime for prime Nando woulda kicked Mayo's ass around the ring.

Made the most of their talent?! What talent? If you mean by fooling a mass of boxing fans into thinking he was an actual force in the sport then yeah.

I can't believe this is even a question, who had the better career. Other than Forrest and an unproven 6 Heads who does Mayorga have on his resume'?

Mayorga was an overhyped showman who used antics and personality not fighting skills to get him paid. He conned a generation of fans and most of you on this board fell prey to it.

....the fool is the person who doesn't recognise that you need a fair degree of talent to get anywhere near the top of a sport......that isn't done purely by personality, antics....promotional hype....

...we look at RJJ and Floyd, and we are wowed by how super-talented they are....and yes, they are....but talent isn't restriced to defensive mastery, or throwing 3 hooks in a second.....that talent is the easiest to spot (and would explain why Mayorga burt onto our radars from nowhere)......talent comes in different forms, and as much as Mayorga was talented at getting hit in the face, he had a habbit of knocking people out and giving good fighters all they could handle......that isn't by luck

....i accept that talent and skills alone are all you need....and perhaps Mayorga excelled with physicallity and determination.....but there needs to be a little ability there in the first place

vargas was better and in his prime would've beaten mayorga. as far as resume goes, mayorga actually has a win over a top fighter who was in his prime. vargas doesn't (unless some of you think that he actually won more than 5 rounds vs. winky).

I think he beat Winky however close it may have been. I also thought he beat Quartey who may have been slightly past his best and not in his best weight class. Still that trumps or at least ties Mayo's 1 KO over Forrest IMO.

You want to talk about not giving Vargas credit for the Winky win, well let's talk about not giving Mayorga credit for the 2nd Forrest fight.

    Exactly.

Though Mayorga fooled me I thought he was going to be deceptively good... playing the part of the Jake Lamotto protege and showing (like Jake) some real subtlety and ability to execute. And hell, maybe he would have but for some circumstances... But what I do know now is that when i look at him and think about what I was thinking? I feel like a schmuch with earlapes!!! He looks like the one dimensional brawler he is nothign more. Oh and point being that vargas was a hell of a lot more.

Also look at the WAY they lost. Vargas got KO'd in a competitive war against a prime Tito. Mayorga got ass raped one sidedly by a past primmed Tito. Vargas got stopped in a competitve fight against a semi-prime Oscar. Mayorga got ass raped one sidedly by a past primmed Oscar.
Both got KO'd by Shane, but the Mosley that beat Vargas had more left in the tank than the Mosley we saw last night.

Also, Nando would have never in a million years lost to Cory Stinks.

yea i dont give vargas credit for that winky fight because he didnt win. i'd give him credit as far as being competitive but that's about it.

plenty of folks had mayorga beating forrest in the rematch. i thought forrest won, but regardless, mayorga knocked him out in the first fight when forrest was perceived as a top 3 best fighter in the world.

vargas's best win is over an inactive ike quartey who was moving up in weight.

    Mayorga was better.

Beating that version of Vernon Forrest twice was very impressive.

I've never been on the Vargas wagon.

He's a shit talking cholo who got his ass sodomize by every elite fighter he ever faced.

Good riddance to him, and i hope Mayo sticks around

So basically, you prefer Mayorga

Vargas at his peak - let's say around the Quartey fight - was a better fighter than Mayorga, and would have beaten him.

Vargas was the BETTER Fighter, Despite what Happened when they Finally Met...

Ferocious Also Fared BETTER Against BETTER Versions of Tito & DeLa, than the Versions Mayorga Lost to...Ferocious Pushed BOTH of them to the BRINK, whereas Mayorga was DOMINATED by DIMINISHED Versions of Both...

As Others have Said, the Quartey & Winky Wins R BETTER than ANYTHING on Mayorga's Resume...

Overall Vargas has a bit better career / resume

Head to head in their primes, I could still see Mayo KO'ing Vargas.

ok, so im very not-objective when it comes to Vargas.

That said, I do think Mayorga doesn't get nearly enough credit from the boxing world.

I mean, he makes Carlos Maussa's technique look good, but he's awkward in somewhat of a measured way. I agreed completely with Mosley in the post-fight when he was talking about how mayo's awkwardness troubled him...and I said similar things to Ike via phone after the fight.

The trouble with Mayorga is that he doesn't care about getting hit in the face, so he throws some absolutely ludicrous punches, punches someone who cares about not getting countered wouldn't throw.

So when you fight him, you aren't just worried about the overhand right, the jab or the hook to the body, now you have to prepare for a guy whose going to throw a lead right uppercut, and thats tough.

37 year old Mosley is not as good as Vernon Forrest in 2003. :nono:

2003 Mosley wasn't as good either.

History will Treat Sugar Shane Mosley MUCH More Favorably than it Will Vernon Forrest...

U Can Argue THIS Version of Vernon was Better or THAT Version was Better, but Overall, Sugar Shane had a BETTER CAREER, Much like Vargas had a Better Career than Mayorga, Despite Losing to him...

Shane Mosley is a BETTER Fighter than Vernon Forrest...

IMO Vargas is a better fighter. Mayorga might just have a better resume based on the Forrest fights.

I don't count Vargas' "win" over Winky. Vargas was being heavily hyped at the time and nobody knew who Winky was. He got the short end of the stick in that fight. I thought Winky did enough to win.
