Who wins between Nathan Cleverly and Chad Dawson?

I feel Dawson is the most overrated light heavy weight, he looks a bit skillfull and beat some seriously old guys, and looks likes he got stamina issues. I think nathan has both more than enough in the tank too punish Chad. and take light heavy weight division by storm.:Chainsaw::Chainsaw::Chainsaw:

Stop it!!! Nathan Cleverly is more hype than anyone. He has no one on his resume that would lead anyone to believe he could beat Chad. Plus he doesn't have the power to keep Dawson off.:scared:

I was reading this weekend (I forget where, exactly), that Cleverly's people are talking about a fight with you Otis. Is there any truth to this?

Cleverly is big, strong, clever but he has one fatal weakness:

I fear his past associations with this man may come back to haunt him

Cleverly is one of those guys that you don't even have to see fight to know he's a can.

He´ll fight Brähmer next. 100%. He is the WBO mandatory, and has already vacated the European title.

To be fair I read this before the weekend's fight and I think it seemed to have been mooted as a 'stay busy' fight if Brahmer's 'troubles' continue.

don't get me wrong, I'd pick Chad in this matchup. But I don't get the hate on Cleverly. There's no guarantee that he becomes a world beater, but his resume is certainly no worse than, say that of Tavoris Cloud prior to entering the title picture.

I don't think I've seen Cleverly fight, but I do think Dawson is getting extremely underrated by some people. Beating Adamek, Tarver x2, Glen x2, and an okay performance against Pascal where he was coming on at the end do not add up to the 'bum' calls some are spouting. At least not imo. I still think Dawson is one of the better fighters in the world and while I would slightly prefer that Pascal wins a rematch, I slightly expect Dawson to win it.

That's what happens in this game. Guy loses and all of a sudden he's beef jerky. Hatton, past his best and not at his best weight, loses to Mayweather. Then he loses to Pac. All of a sudden people forget the wins over Tszyu, Castillo, Collazo. Act as if he was a total bum all along.

Dawson would beat Cleverly if they fought. At this point in time, Chad Dawson has CLEARLY mixed with better company and has one, slightly controversial loss in a fight he was clearly still in at the end.

That is possible. I don´t think Universum will promote another show this year. Kohl would have to negotiate a one-time TV deal for Brähmer/Cleverly to host the fight in Germany. They are already shipping WBC 130 pound champion Tajbert to Japan and the same fate probably awaits Brähmer. His legal troubles complicate the situation. The question is whether he´s even allowed to travel, even if GB isn´t the Bahamas.

I will also be interested in Brähmer´s purse and whether he actually goes through with the mandatory defense. His last title defense against a total scrub was cancelled five days before the fight, because Brähmer came down with a back injury from sparring. :tick: It is largely believed though, that Brähmer was unhappy with his (really generous) one million dollar purse !!! and tried to force Kohl´s hand, who at that stage simply called the whole fight off.

Calling Dawson a 'bum' is clearly nonsese, but then so is rating him top 5 p4p which is where many had him prior to losing to Pascal. Tarver is old as hell and many felt he lost the first fight to Glen (I didn't mind), whilst Adamek is as game as hell but clearly limited. These wins do not a great fighter make IMHO.

That said, I'd favour him to beat Cleverly at this point. Unquestionably so in fact. But Nathan is young and will improve; no doubt in my mind about that.

That's about the size of it. Right now, Cleverly loses. No real shock there, Dawson is just at a different stage of his own career. And it is telling that Cleverly shook off Enzo 2 years ago.......he obviously saw that 99.99999999% of what Joe achieved was done by..well...Joe, and Joe alone.

The easy route would have been to keep Enzo on, fight on shite Warren cards and pick up easy money.

Cleverly could be, if he is diligent, a legitimate threat to any 175 lbr in a few years.

In one years time, Cleverly will fuck Chad up. I have no doubt whatsoever.

And then DeGale will beat Cleverly.

Yeah he has leap froged his way to a title shot by fighting nobodies. I train with John tandy over in London and before I got back in top ten we were trying to sneek up on him but his management wouldn't drink the Kool Aid. He is a long guy with loose shoulders and throws alot of punches; but outside of that Steve is spot on with his comment! The shocker is Andrade will take Brahmer's title this Fall and Nathan don't want to see Andrade. So I'll have to step in and do the dirty work once again....:dunno:

There is no way court will allow Brähmer to travel to Canada. The last time Canada balked for ten years to deliver a fugitive.

I'd pick Cleverly. We all saw Dawson's last fight....and i've only just got round to watching Cleverly-Murat. I've been high on Nathan for some time, but his performance vs Murat convinced me that he's going to be a star.

He out-works Bad Chad, and like Pascal, his handspeed and combinations would give Dawson a lot to contend with.

And please, if you haven't seen him fight....either go and check him out, or STFU.

He elected to fight Murat's fight, and still bashed him up....and his defence up close is pretty good considering the amount of punches he throws.

I think he's the real deal....and that's not just because Sky and Frank Warren are telling me so.

Being part of boxing media as well as a fighter helps me view things from inside and out the ring. So many are asking the question; "How good is Nathan Cleverly???!" Here is my answer with the background research of video in conjunction of boxing science. First of all I will say the potential of this young fighter is amazing. Nathan is long (6'2) with loose shoulders and above average hand speed. Cleverly is in good cardo condition; sometimes throwing over 85 punches/rd. These are all pros! Here are some of the Cons. Cleverly despite his rank and record is very untested. What I mean by this is he has never been in a war with a 2 fisted power puncher or a iron will brawler. His opponents have tried to out box a boxer with high activity and range. His defense is flawed and depends on reaction and length instead of slickness or tecnique. Cleverly does not throw a large variety of combo's for an world class boxer. His balance and wide stance takes 30 to 40% of his power away. The floating of his back foot will make him likely to be beaten by a rythm floating counter attack; the Ali classic style. In conclusion this kid Cleverly his outstanding potenial. He is young and should slow down and learn more craft. He is being rushed to the world title and will have one are 2 resets in his career do to this. In common words; he's still a little "green".:egypt:

Im not especially impressed with Cleverly. His footwork and body angling is poor & seems to consistently get him hit with sloppy shots on breaks and the ends of exchanges, he's not remarkably fast or heavy handed & he's not an especially accurate or sharp puncher either, in fact he seems to wing loosely. In short by standards of boxing in any other era he's pretty average, with little to set him apart other than very high energy levels, a flair for pot shot counters and confidence (a poor man's Joe Calzaghe in some ways). I don't think he's a natural or technical talent on Chad Dawson's level, though of course if 'Bad attitude' Chad caprices to show up and throw 13 left hand punches in 11 fucking rounds he can and will lose to anybody remotely world class on a given night.

If Chad deins to actually THROW SOME PUNCHES I think he's the 3rd best guy in the sport at least. He has all the ability in the world. His performance against Pascal was the single worst, relative to ability, I've ever seen watching the sport. The left was broken, I was convinced.....Then of course he comes out in the 11th, decides to throw the straight left and nearly stops his guy in 60 seconds. As Steward was saying right from early and all the way thru - he could have made it pretty easy for himself from the beginning by just stamping his authority on the fight & owning his ability.

It was almost like he'd taken on a Willie Pep like bet with a journalist or something - 'bet I can win this one handed.....2 lefts a round at most, bet ya'.

    Truly abysmal performance.
