Sugar Shane is a genuinely great fighter. He’s proven himself time and time again over a long and distinguished career with his dominant run in the Lightweight division and with his wins over Antonio Diaz, Wilfredo Rivera, Fernando Vargas and of course, Oscar De La Hoya.

I would not call Shane a "Slugger" so much as a "swarmer"

he has the speed to be a boxer but the article is correct in that he LOVES to go to war...

I get a feeling that Margarito will stop Mosley. The Tijuana Tornado is coming and it's going to take Mosley with it.

I thought the article did s good job of dispelling the misconception that Mosley is a slick boxer. But at the same time, it misleads its readers when it refers to Mosely as an inside fighting brawler. Mosley is not an inside fighter. While the author showed good powers of observation in referring to Mosley as a spurt fighter, make no mistake, Mosley is not an inside fighter.

Ironically, if he were, he probably could've beaten Forrest and possibly Wright. But Mosley's not an inside. He's a mid-distance fighter who likes to pot-shot his opponent with leaping shots one at a time, before holding him in the hopes that the referee stops the action, breaks the fighters, and he can repeat his assault once again.

Mosley doesn't trade with his opponents, and in the face iof welter-weights, as opposed to light-weights, he does not throw combinations.

Mosley's best bet to beat Margarito would be to jab himself in and fight him inside in a fashion similar to Glen Johnson's destruction of RJJ. This would mean moving his head at close to mid-distance, mixing his punches, throwing combinations, with some harder than others, and most of all focusing on Margarito's body.

But if you recall, Johnson's success against RJJ required he be able to handle the incoming and not be deterred. Mosley obviously will need to replicate this feat if he's to successfully implement this strategy (not to mention quit his holding, throw combinations and trade with his opponent when Margarito will be most vulnerable to being hit).

But what a lot of people overlook about Margarito is that he knows how to use his height, has a long jab, and "can" win rounds from the outside if he needs to. And that will undoubtedly be his response if the strategy described above proves fruitful for Mosley.

Interestingly, the only sustained assualt that Mosley showed as a welterweight or above, in which he fought inside and threw in combination, turned out to be a fight in which it's now been exposed that he was under the influence of steroids (Mosley vs. ODH II). Without steroids, I don't think Mosley can overcome his tendency to be a "spurt" fighter as the authoer referred to him, and that means he cannot and will not execute the strategy he'd need to beat Margarito.

He's either going to be outboxed, or have his clocked clean. But in neither case will he win. This is my prediction.

    By the way,

Williams beat Margarito fighting him at mid-distance and without the fear to trade with him. And he showed a chin on a par with Margarito's - no doubt attributable to the fact that Williams is as much as welterweight as ODH was a light weight. And still, Margarito nearly beat him. And I certainly wouldn't call him bested by Williams even if he did lose to him.

Bottom line: Mosley just doesn't have the tools or the style to beat Margarito. In that sense, I have to echo the autor's opinion, except his claim that Mosley fights inside or even that he brawls.

This writer has a flair for the dramatic and I say good for him/her!! :bears:

Margarito os relentless but can be challenged by the likes of Williams, or anyone strong enough physically to deal with a big wiry welter.

Shane's problem is that he has always been between the worlds. Margarito knows what he is and when he was able against Cotto he proved himself... Shane has never definied his way. He is not really physical to a point where he could be called a physical fighter... he does not have the polish to finesse the way the real finesse guys do it (please no comparisons to RR please!) he does not have the puncher's gift...

what he has is speed and heart. He is a gifted athlete that will hang in there and look pretty good but at the end of the day everyone knows how this fight will turn out.

I couldn't help but notice an "irresistable force / immovable object" and movie quote in this.

Say what you want, but Margarito is still not worthy of a fight with Hatton, Pacman or Floyd,... those 3, are the 3,... that MATTER!!!!.
