Fighters becoming promoters always helps...easier match-making and you can choose your own division.

Sh*tty divisions, fighters aren't obligated to do sh*t, they pad their records, take years off for vacations (Vitali, Floyd), don't fight anybody worth a damn unless they're forced to although in Vitali's case, there's f*ck all in the division anyway. Simply, they treat boxing like a pastime. Not really devoted to it at all. Which I guess is good for them.
BTW, you want to offer a few examples of well-aging boxers, Hut? I mean boxers who actually have very good resumes and have been in wars and who fight about 2-3 times per year without any extended layoffs inbetween?

It will a combination of all the choices including other things. I think less fights is the biggest factor though.

because there are far fewer really well schooled fighters around to threaten the aged
because they fight a lot less often
because referees are more careful about stopping fights
because of an improved focus on nutrition

makes Archie Moore seem all the more remarkable when you consider he was a great fighter into his 40s at a time when you fought 10 times a year or more

Also, back in the day you trained with hard leather shoes, which took a toll on your feet and back.

Good list - and as others have mentioned, the shorter distance for title fights is another factor.

But Hut-Hut, to echo the sentiments of Hanz, what are some examples of these fighters who have "aged gracefully" moreso than in other times/era's?

Throw Hopkins out, and who are you referencing? Hopkins may have benefitted from everything people have mentioned in this thread but even with all those advantages I think we all agree he is a bit of a freak in this regard.

Exactly. All kinds of women having healthy FIRST pregnancies and healthy babies well into their mid forties....virtually unheard of previously.

I have to be honest, I am getting better value for money and better quality of life out of my 30's. Eddie Murphy once said that his 20's were the "fuck years"......but Pharmaceutical developments have changed that forever. Jack Nicholson is going to die in battle some fine evening, thanks to the big V. The bottom line is that a man in his mid 30's is smack bang in the middle of his overall prime- it's where he hits that sweetspot of physical prime and experience of life. Shit only really get's going for a fella when he hit's 30, whereas a bitch be winding down by then.

REED- Mirren has never given birth. That' has to count for a lot. In fairness, a kid does "nathan" for longevity, except that of the Species.
