I addressed this in another thread, but here's what I said:

I think people are being too hard on Max. The opposite extreme, in which the guy barely follows the sport, and couldn't care less about the match-ups except to do his job, is far worse.

I don't agree with his particular preferences when it comes to styles and personalities, and I do think he's biased in the sense he favors American fighters. And I don't appreciate his efforts to rationalize bad decisions, implying that fighters by virtue of their market value are somehow entitled to close decisions.

But I like that he's genuinely excited by the sport and the prospect of good match-ups. And I appreciate his ability to draw general lessons about life and society from boxing. Maybe it's embarrassing for some of you. But if that's the case, I challenge you to examine the reason for this, and why this commentator, by way of expressing his passion for boxing, gets under your skin and makes you want to beat him up.

He's cool. Very enthusiastic, which is what the sport needs.

Max Kellerman is very good. I would be better, but he's very good.

    Jim Lampley rules though.

I appreciate Max's love of the sport.. but his over the top enthusiasm for certain fighters and relentless sack swinging far surpasses anything I've ever witnessed in the world of boxing commentary. He's like a little kid who gets so caught up in the moment and is so in love with his favorite fighters that he loses sense of reality.

    I, too, would be better.

Max is usually pretty annoying, but I was a fan during his ESPN days. I just don't think he's in the correct roll.

I thought he was good in studio, spreading the word on what's wrong with the ABC's etc...

That's a good point. He's much better in a role in which he's attacking the establishment, and protesting injustices. As a guy who's now largely tasked with defending and rationalizing the status quo, he's less effective.

Because he's the most annoying, sycophantic, dorky goon of a broadcaster I've ever seen. He sickens me.

    Larry is the man.

I like Max, but I also like making fun of Max occasionally.

The enthusiasm can be a breath of fresh air and mind-numbing at the same time.

As has already been said, he was better in the studio, then he is ringside.

My daughter yells at the TV for Max to blink, every time he's on. She thinks he's on drugs.

There's announcers/commentators that annoy me a lot more then Max.

I used to like Teddy Atlas a lot. He may be my 2nd least favorite boxing guy on TV right now, after Jim Grey.

I even prefer Grey and Atlas to Kellerman.

Kellerman is a total chode. He's like a retarded schoolgirl who likes boxing. Not really what I'm looking for in a broadcaster tbh.

I should be glad. It's the only time she shows an interest in boxing.

Im a fan for the most part. His enthusiasm is needed (one reason I used to defend the Colonel) but moreso his assaults on the Alphabet soup are so desperately required, and a breath of fresh air. I like that he tries to draw historical comparisons to current boxers and events, too, and anyone who is a Sweet Pea fan cant be all bad.

The ignorant, often misguided slander of the sanctioning bodies, the pathetic touting of the Ring belt, and the butt love of American fighters aside, Max is a smart guy and an above-average announcer and a big fan of the sport.

I liked Max okay when he was paired with Atlas, but he is better without Atlas. He fell into the trap of letting Atlas put words into his mouth and I don't think he was ever comfortable enough to confront and challenge Atlas on some of the stupid shit Atlas said.

Max's theory on scoring a fight--look for who you would rather be in the round--is spot on and the very best way to score a round.

No slander of the governing bodies could be misguided, at the least.

The orgs are the lowest slime and filth in a sport choking with such figures.
