The mighty truly have fallen! Theres not nearly as many threads, or discussion going on in the general forum nowadays as in years past. It makes me sad to the point where now I'm starting to post at Eastside, where the posters for the most part are far inferior, but theres way more threads up. It seems this forum only gets buzzin nowadays after the aftermath of a big fight.

I mean, I.E. Wendesday night fights was on last night, and I dont even see a single thread about it! In FB's prime, there was a thread up about every boxing event.

And MM, I wont even get into how shot that section of the forum is.

I like this place, its like my second internet home, I dont wanna see it turn into a wasteland forum like Boxing Fagatics is. How can we safe this forum, and bring some life back to the general boxing section?

Cupey needs to post more. Jake doesnt post as much as he used to. And Donny, and Muzse only post now about once or twice every few months. Not even Brother REED posts as often as he used to.

Ahh, I miss the circa 2003 FB.

This is the slow part of the year. There are plenty of people posting, it's just in TAAA.

There are no major fights, other than Calderon/Cazares, until the first weekend in September.

There's a drought of big fights right now until September. That has to account for some of the slow down. But I agree. There's not enough hot tempered debate going on to keep my attention.

One of the issues is that PBF has retired and RJJ isn't fighting until November. So there's nothing to fight about.

Usually, you can count on at least one debate between posters who have PBF's balls in their mouths, and those who don't. But with his retiring, it isn't happening.

Plus, Margarito's beat-down of Cotto shut-up a whole lot of people just as I predicted it would.

I agree X. I remember when this forum was in it's prime. Now it's dead. This place is also my second internet home. I talked with Cupey about adding some forum options. I convinced Cupey to add the Arcade which I was hoping would bring some life back. The forum options didn't spark the traffic that I was hoping for.

Xplosive, you have to realize that times have changed. Have you not noticed that the decline of the board happened as the sport of boxing itself declined? It goes hand in hand. People have lost interest in boxing over the past few years as the big stars have either retired or are on the verge of retirement, all the while being replaced by nothing!
Remember the hype of Trinidad, Tyson, Lewis, DLH, Jones, etc? Before and after fights, people were on here day and night. Now what is there?
It's just a sign of a dying sport void of any real stars which means the one-time fans have moved on.
Everything goes in cycles. It's much like pro wrestling which also is in the sh*tter. Slowly, the fans are losing interest.
Boxing like every other sport needs superstars. And we don't have any of them left.

This board is absolutely NOTHING close to what it was when Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, and Evander Holyfield were active. Nothing will ever beat the hype that came with Lewis/Tyson in 2002. The whole world posted on the boards in anticipation of that fight and it went on and on long after the fight.
2003 was also a badass year for the forums and boxing in general. I loved BT!

I think it's pretty simple...as this era's stars have fallen off so have their fans.

It hard to get passionate about debates involving Jones, Trinidad, De La Hoya, et al, these days when you see the stages their careers are at (though it will kick up a little bit around the time they fight again later this year).

Who's left for some fans to get excited about?

If someone got interested in the sport because of a personality and not the sport, they've probably lost interest.

Yep and 90% of fans got interested because of a personality, hence the emptiness we now see in our forums.
I loved the fans who were passionate towards their boxers. Sure, they may have gotten too passionate to the point where you wanted to find and murder them but still, it was fun and that's what it's all about.

Them were the good old day's! I remember the great wars we had back then! The Trinidad fans and the RJ fans were always down each others throats:lol: Half the Tito fans disappeared after Tito was KTFO by Hopkins, Half the Jones fans disappeared when RJ was KTFO by Tarver.

There was nothing more ferocious than the Tyson fans vs the Lewis fans. That was borderline World War III, baby!!!!!!!! And it lasted for like 2 f*cking years. Every part of that enmity was dissected. The pre-fight hype, the press conferences, the interviews, everthing and anything. The fans were all over it, lapping it all up!

Yeah, nothing against this forum, but BT back then was the best by far. The build-up for fights like Lewis/Tyson, De La Hoya/Vargas and Jones/Ruiz were epic.

But meanwhile, plenty of other boards/sites are still thriving. If Fightbeat can only remain relevant when there's a big fight, then what's to prevent people from going elsewhere, where they can get that and so much more?

joony dismissed an earlier claim, but I can't say I agree with him - there's a direct link to the lack of content and the board being as slow as it's been lately. After a while, people don't have a reason to keep coming back.

It was insane. It was so insane that when I went to college to use the labs, I didn't get ANY WORK DONE whatsoever because I spent the entire f*cking day on the boards with over 100 angry fans all tearing into eachother in anticipation of Lewis/Tyson. Boxing.com, BT, and SecondsOut were my forums! :kidcool:

I don't go on a lot of other boards so I can't comment on them...though I usually frequent Eastside if there's a non-US televised fight simply for the round-by-rounds or whatever.

But Fightbeat always depended on die-hards, nuthuggers, haters, etc....the one's who would fill up the first page of the forum with the name of whoever just fought that weekend (with topics both pro and con on whoever it was).

Man, how long did we debate about Lewis/Klitschko after that fight? I think that sh*t just kept going and going and going for like 8 months to a year regarding who would've won that fight.:laughing:

I think fightbeat will remain as it is right now. A little community of guys that have been posting together for years. I think that might scare new posters a little. We've had only one or two new regular posters in the last year.

Speaking of content, though, I do remember a poster by the name of "Fightbeat" sometimes posting topics on other forums directing viewers to Fightbeat content.

I agree, but Max isn't what it once was. There numbers are way down from where they used to be (at least according to Alexa and a few other traffic estimator sites). They still have their long-standing reputation, but trying to fill in the gaps while all but refusing to provide Olympic coverage doesn't exactly help matters any.
