The majority are in there mid thirty's and beyond and a small percentage are in there late twentys being the youngest and its something I've noticed on boxing forums including this one.Has boxing finally let the times go past them and can't relate to a younger crowd anymore? IMO that's not good.........at all!!!

Because most of these young punks would rather buy a gun than appreciate the manly art of self defense

I fell in love with boxing when I was 15. I could only get one my friends at the time to follow me in to the world of the "Hardcore Boxing Fan". I did, however, have a bunch of friends who would never miss a Gatti fight.

& HOW R U "just Stating the OBVIOUS" when REED has Pointed Out that he PERSONALLY Knows SEVERAL Cats in their Teens & Early 20's who LOVE Boxing???:dunno: ...

Not to Mention REED's OTHER Point about there Being ALOT Of Cats in their Early-MID Twenties that Post ON THIS SITE...

This Thread is DEVOID of an Actual POINT or Any FACTS...Just the WISHFUL Thinking of an MMA Nuthugger...

Wrong and pretty ignorant coming from you:rolleyes:

Wrong again, other than the sanctioning bodies(which is justifiable)I never say anything negative about boxing and anybody here can tell you that. When I bitch about boxing its ALWAYS ABOUT THE SB'S I'm not going to turn a blind eye to that like you or anybody else on this or any other boxing forum.

You can't sit there and tell me that there's not a decline in younger viewers compared to the late eighty's and early 90's...now who's the nutthugger:rolleyes:

Dude, U RARELY if EVER Have a BOXING Opinion, Unless U're Discussing Someone "Hating" on Manny Pac:rolleyes: ...Other than that, Virtually NADA...Yet DAILY, U're on the MMA Forum, Aren't U???...

Again, that's YOUR Prerogative, just DON'T Act like it ISN'T the Case...

& U're ALWAYS CRYING about Such & Such "Fighting like a Bitch", when it Comes to Boxing...

Check the Viewership of ANY Sport from the Late 80's-Early 90's to Now...Just about ALL of them have Seen a "Decline" in their #'s (Except for the NFL)...

WHY???...Cause of Satellite & Cable T.V....Cause of NBA, NFL, MLB & NHL Season Satellite packages...Cause there's SPECIALIZED Channels These Days (Golf Network, Food Network, NFL Network, NBAtv, ESPN, ESPN 2,U,Deportes, etc.)...

Times have CHANGED...This AIN'T the Late 80's-Early 90's Anymore...Peeps have MORE OPTIONS...Now, Instead of Keeping Up w/a Fight schedule, U Can just Go to Youtube & Catch Up on ANY Fight U Missed...

Bottom Line, The "Viewership" #'s R SKEWED...If that's your ONLY Basis for Saying Boxing ISN'T "Attracting" Younger Fans, U Gotta do BETTER than that, Son...

I know alot of people who are boxing-retarded that will get into fights when I force them to watch it.. then they ask, "why doesn't boxing get shown on tv more ?"

So I think that answers the question mainly, great sport, but poor media coverage mainly because it is very UN-PC (violent, racial, unpredictable, male oriented)

Wanna bet? The early to mid 90's were complete crap for the sport.

    Showtime? Rare.
    HBO? Infrequent telecasts.
    ESPN? Good.
    USA? Pretty good.
ESPN2? When that switch to ESPN2 first began, the telecasts were horrid.
Other cable channels? Far worse than today. Far worse.
Satellite tv? Good luck finding it. This completely shut out fans outside of the city cable systems who wouldn't shell out thousands for a big dish.

All this equals not a lot of young fans back then, either. And because so much more boxing is televised these days, I'd say there is no chance there are fewer young fans today.

Oh, and while mma does have the young fans today, I really don't think it is hurting boxing by stealing fans. I'd guess the opposite, that it actually helps bring in more fans to boxing than otherwise would be there.

Honestly, I came to boxing because of Lennox Lewis. He was a dominant heavyweight champion who won a gold medal for my country at the Olympics. He was beating guys who EVERYONE knew like Holyfield and Tyson. From watching Lewis fights I eventually made my way online and learned about the other fighters from there.

If I were 15 again right now, I'm not sure how I would find the sport. :dunno:

I think the new generations are more into other sports. But there are still new fans coming in.

I always tell friends and co-workers about big fights coming up. Some are the type that want to be involved in big events and end up ordering the big fights. Most still ask me for the big fights coming up. :slap:

Boxing used to be banned to anyone under 18 for a while way back when. But it was alot more gritty and dirty.

Why is it not big within young people? There aren't boxing teams any more. You used to be able to box in high school. Aside from the one organization in southern California which now has a program in Philly, there isn't really any strong push for young kids to box.

Fights are also staged late. Juan Diaz, a great fighter for young kids to watch, didn't start his fight until midnight. The best show to take younger kids to is an ESPN one. Because of TV, sometimes the third fight of the night (out of 8) is a good televised one. When Peter fought Julius Long, it was the third fight of the night.

The most young people I've seen at a fight live was last thursday when Maddalone fought some nobody. That was only because the promoter brought his son's baseball team. The most kids I've seen at a fight on TV was Sergio Mora vs. Peter Manfredo 2.

Reed is right that the NFL is the only mainstream sport that actually has rising numbers. The only other sport on the rise is MMA.

Give it some time before Boxing is in the same state. Hopefully the trend of good fights continues.

"MMA isn't on the rise, the UFC is." -Dana White

And I think Dana has a point. There is no MMA organization out there bringing in money. Bodog is a joke, Pride is dead, KOTC has amounted to nothing, EliteXC has yet to make any profit, K1 is dying. Face it, the reality is the UFC is the only show in town making any money and even then, the majority of fighters are paid like cheap whores.
And it's likely the UFC itself has peaked. Its ppv numbers have not risen in the past year and Dana White has become quieter as opposed to last year when he was throwing the UFC's big box office numbers out there constantly.
The trouble with boxing is not the sport itself. It's the lacking of superstars. A company without stars will not see interest from the fans. MMA is going down the same route. The UFC believes throwing TUF reality show fighters on ppv is fine and dandy but it isn't and the fans are speaking up.
The fans pay only to see the stars of the sport, not bums. That's why DLH and Tyson made crazy box office.
And right now, boxing has no stars left on the magnitude of Ali, Frazier, Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Tyson, Holyfield, etc. :dunno:
No stars? No interest! That's just how it is.

I agree with most of what u say but there is stars in boxing. The problem for me is behide the scenes. There are so many potentail mega fights out there but for some reason they come off.

The fights the mainstream promote usually are not that great. The 2 biggest fights in the 00's was Lewis-Tyson and De la Hoya-Mayweather. Amagine if Morales-Barrera 1 and Corrales-Castillo one had there promotion.

People are softer? That depends on where you live. For example IMO Europeans and Americans are getting soft this is due to evolution and wealth. People in Africa aren’t getting any softer they are still bad mofo’s.

This is a trend seen in other sports too. It won’t belong before Africa dominates it all. They will want and need it more than the rest of us.

I reckon a boxing academy in Kenya would draw out some natural talent, those bastards have the genetical potential to fight real hard if everything else fits into place, chin, mentallity etc,.. Nigerians seem to be the power tribe, while the Ghanians seem to be the most durable tribe, maybe I can mix em' up and make me own monster --> :stir: mix'n em up.
