Gomez was the greater fighter when you consider his whole career, but how does this play out at Featherweight?

Lopez could alter this fight permanently with one punch... The question is if Gomez puts himself in a position for that to happen... On paper, Gomez has all of the skill needed to comprehensively outbox Lopez and win a one-sided decision... But the trouble with Lopez is that it was hard for fighters to maintain discipline because he was so easy to hit that they'd be emboldened by it and go for the kill only to get flattened by his ridiculous right hands... Gomez didn't have the greatest chin, especially at 126 and for all of his skills and talent, would do stupid shit sometimes... Gomez is a much greater fighter, I'm not 100% convinced he was a better Featherweight, but who knows? Maybe he was? Lopez couldn't beat Sanchez, either and he wouldn't have been able to beat Azumah, either... I just keep seeing it like Gomez has things his way for awhile, starts to enjoy too much and then Lopez flops his right arm out there and it's as good as over

Lil' Red was a GOOD Sized Feather...Wilfredo Gomez was PERFECTLY Suited for 122 & Despite Winning Titles @ Higher Weights, Gomez BARELY Resembled the BEAST he Was @ Jr. Feather...

Lopez was Limited, but he was TOUGH & he Landed his Fair Share of HARD Shots on Everybody he Faced, Salvador Sanchez Included...Gomez's Chin was SHAKY @ '26 & SHITTY @ '30...Lopez Catches Gomez CLEAN @ Some Point & it's All Downhill for the Bazooka from There...

    Lil' Red by Late KO...

Lol, that's how i'm seeing it also. Lopez was slow, stiff and had a putrid defense. I tink gomez tear him in half.

That's how everyone saw every Lopez fight. Then they got hit. No featherweight as shaky-chinned as Gomez is going the distance against Lopez unless they fight a perfect, disciplined fight. I have no reason to have faith that Gomez could do that at 126.

Lopez may be the hardest single-shot hitter ever at 126. I have no doubt he gets enough clean ones home on Wilfredo to end it. Sanchez was far sturdier, a straighter puncher, more disciplined. He took a shot here or there, but for the most part, he left Lopez swinging at air and didn't get caught up in the "look how easy it is to hit this guy!" game... Gomez, like so many others, very likely would have got caught up in it and caught some heavy shit in return.

Every Lopez win was like that... Opponent lands 70% of his power shots, gets excited, gets aggressive, gets knocked unconscious.

I agree with dogman and REED. Gomez wasn't much at 126. The slow, ponderous, but extremely powerful Lopez fucks him up eventually.

Hard to pick. On one hand, Gomez has a HUGE edge in skill. Lopez had a horrible defense, but his power was somethin else. Sanchez took target practice on Lopez, but ate a number of good shots in return. But Sanchez had a granite chin. Gomez, did not.

Gun to my head, I'd take Gomez. But Lopez scoring a come from behind KO is VERY possible.
